3rd quarter propels Panthers over Lancers

LAKEVILLE — LaVille’s boys basketball team matched NorthWood punch for punch for 29 minutes.
The other three minutes, though, knocked the Lancers back just enough to make the difference.
The Panthers, who led 36-33 at the intermission, scored eight unanswered points in the first three minutes of the second half to open a double-digit lead and turn back LaVille 78-64 at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium Tuesday.
“We had that lapse in the third quarter,” LaVille head coach Michael Edison said. “I think we turned the ball over four times pretty quickly and NorthWood scored off the turnovers. Except for that two or three minutes we played them pretty even.
“NorthWood plays hard, physical,” he added. “They’re one of those teams with a football mentality. They bring it at you. I don’t mind, and the kids don’t mind. They attack well, pull it back and work you. They’re the type of team we want to model ourselves after.”
Altogether, NorthWood, buoyed by a quick burst from its full-court press to complement game-long offensive production in the paint, outscored LaVille 16-7 in the third frame, and led by no fewer than eight points the rest of the evening.
