3-year-old dies after Sunday accident

October 2, 2012

A 3-year-old has died after an accident Sunday where a headboard fell on him and another child.
The Marshall County Dispatch Center received a 911 call of a heavy headboard that fell on two children, ages 3 and 5, in the 12000 block 4A Road around 1:32 p.m. Sunday.
The caller advised that the 3-year-old was having difficulty breathing. Marshall County Deputies, Lapaz Fire and EMS, Plymouth Paramedics and Memorial Medflight responded to the scene.
Both children were transported to St Joseph Medical Center - Plymouth. They were then transported to a hospital in Fort Wayne where 3 year old Malachi Palmer died from injuries suffered in the accident.
Investigation at the scene by Marshall County Deputies revealed that the children were playing and accidentally knocked over a headboard that was leaning against a wall while a parent was cleaning in the residence.
