3 juveniles detained after stealing 4 vehicles
BREMEN — Three juveniles are being held pending Delinquency Petitions following a report last week that a car had been stolen.
At about 5:25 a.m. Thursday, May 17, the Bremen Police Department received a report that a car had just been stolen in the area of Mill and Marshall streets. When Bremen P.D.’s Sgt. Brad Kile arrived at 5:29 a.m. he located and stopped the stolen vehicle and detained the occupant. A second call of a stolen vehicle came in the department at 5:34 a.m. That vehicle had been stolen and had wreaked into a fence in the area of Mill and Whitlock streets.
Two other juveniles were located on foot in the area at 5:40 a.m. and were detained for questioning. Following an investigation, it was determined that the suspects stole a Toyota van from South Bend, at about 3:30 a.m., and then side-swiped an unknown object (damaging the passenger side of the van) somewhere between South Bend and Bremen.
Once in Bremen, the suspects abandoned the van on West Dewey Street west of North Center Street. They then stole a total of three cars in Bremen abandoning one, crashing one and getting caught in one. There was also numerous vehicles ransacked with some reporting mainly money taken from the vehicles. All three suspects are juveniles from South Bend and are being detained at the St. Joseph County Juvenile Justice Center pending Delinquency Petitions being filed.
At this point in the investigation all the vehicles entered and or stolen by the suspects where left unlocked and the keys left inside the vehicles. The Bremen Police Department is asking the community to remember to remove the keys from their cars, to lock the doors, and not leave valuables inside.
