3 hosting tourneys as sectional volleyball draws announced

October 9, 2012

INDIANAPOLIS — A trio of area teams will play host to sectional fields as the 41st Annual IHSAA State Volleyball Tournament opens next Tuesday.
Plymouth will try to build on last year's sectional runner-up finish as the team hosts a seven team Class 3A field at the Rock beginning with the opener between the Lady Pilgrims and Mishawaka Marian Tuesday at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to play Northern State Conference champion New Prairie at 11 a.m. Saturday.
John Glenn drew 2011 champion South Bend St. Joseph's in a quarterfinal set for 6 p.m. Thursday with a rematch between Culver Girls Academy — which currently boasts 18 wins — and Jimtown scheduled to follow.
The St. Joe-Glenn winner will play the CGA-Jimtown victor in the late semifinal Saturday with the championship slated for 7 p.m.
Also in Class 3A action, Knox will host a six-team field beginning Thursday. The Lady Redskins will face Rensselaer Central following the 6 p.m. CT opener between Kankakee Valley and reigning Sectional 18 champ Andrean.
The winners of those matches will play one another at 11 a.m. CT Saturday followed by another semifinal between Calumet and Hanover Central with the title match scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
Defending Sectional 51 champion Culver Community will host a seven-team Class A field beginning Tuesday with a match between Triton and South Central Union Mills at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Cavs will take on Marquette Catholic in the early match Thursday at 6:30 p.m. followed by a match between Oregon-Davis and Westville.
Argos drew the bye and will play the Triton-South Central winner in the early semifinal Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with the winner of Culver-Marquette and the winner of OD-Westville slated to face off after. The championship is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
In the Class 2A tournament, Bremen will look to break an eight-year sectional championship dry spell when the Lady Lions face Northern State Conference foe LaVille in an early semifinal at the Sectional 35 at Central Noble Saturday at 12:30 p.m. The winner will play for the championship at 5 p.m.
