3 area players honored at Griddys

March 22, 2013

INDIANAPOLIS — Three area senior standouts were given honors at the Seventh Annual Griddy Awards Sunday at the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center in Indianapolis.
Plymouth offensive lineman Dan Samuelson was one of 26 players named to the Big School All-State list, while Bremen defensive back Bobby Cornett and Culver Military Academy defensive lineman Frank Slykas were both named to the 27-player Small School All-State roll.
The Griddy Awards are co-sponsored by the Indiana High School Football authority, the Indiana Football Digest and the Regional Radio Sports Network in collaboration with the Indianapolis Colts as well high school coaches from around the state.
Rather than relying purely on on-field skills and stats, the primary criteria for consideration to win a Griddy are qualities such as character, community involvement, team leadership and other non-skill related assets.
