2 die in Michigan Rd crash

August 4, 2011

PLYMOUTH — The Marshall County Coroner’s Office has released the names of the two victims of Tuesday morning’s double-fatality accident at 5A and Michigan Roads north of Plymouth.
Wesley F. Collins, 21, of Plymouth and Conner A. McGee, 18, of Muncie were both killed instantly in a three-vehicle crash. Identification of both victims was withheld during the day pending notification of family members.
According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, officers responded to the scene at approximately 5:37 a.m. and determined that two separate accidents had occurred.
A 1990 Honda carrying Collins, McGee, and another passenger was southbound on Michigan Road, and for an unknown reason, traveled left of center and struck a northbound 1992 Chevy S-10 driven by David Nance, 49, of Plymouth. Following the collision, Nance’s vehicle came to rest at the northeast corner of Michigan and 5A Roads, while the Honda stopped in the southbound lane of Michigan.
A southbound 1996 Chevy S-10 operated by Kyle Johnson, 19, of North Liberty, did not see the stopped Honda and struck the vehicle and a passenger, who had pulled himself from the first wreck and was standing in front of the crashed Honda, who died from those injuries.
The third occupant of the Honda was flown by Med Flight to Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Nance was also taken to Memorial, and Johnson was treated at the scene.
Deputy Coroner Les Trump led the investigation and was assisted by Marshall County Coroner Bill Cleavenger.
The accident remains under investigation by the Coroner’s Office. Assisting at the scene were LaPaz Fire & EMS, Plymouth Paramedics, Med Flight, and the Marshall County Police Department.
