Maxinkuckee Singers to perform

The Maxinkuckee Singers, under the direction of Beth Webster, cordially invite the public to enjoy their annual Christmas concert, presented publicly in six performances. The group looks forward to sharing standards, contemporary, sacred numbers, comedy routines and featured soloists, sure to please audiences of all ages. All shows  will begin at 7:30 EST (6:30 CST in Knox) and there is no admission charge. This year there will be a five-minute intermission prior to the show’s surprise conclusion.

Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department teaming up with Toys for Tots

ELKHART — The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department is asking the community for help this year. It requests that members of the community help by donating a new unwrapped toy to the Toys for Tots collection drive.
The toy cannot be a realistic looking weapon or a gift that contains food. The public may bring in toys from now until Dec. 7 to drop off in the lobby of the Law Enforcement Center during normal business hours or the lobby of the Correctional Complex during their business hours.

1st Source Bank opens new banking center

NAPPANEE — 1st Source Bank opened its doors Nov. 19 at its brand new location at 1600 E. Market St. in Nappanee.
The new banking center has many conveniences including a coffee station and a business center for clients who need to use a fax machine, shredder, or computer while taking care of their banking. The banking center also includes an ATM and drive-up.

Center acknowledges generosity and volunteerism

NAPPANEE — The Family Christian Development Center (FCDC) is known in the area for feeding the less fortunate. In 2011 alone, the Center helped put food on the tables of 3,349 households, but the beginning of November, staff and volunteers met to enjoy one another’s company as well as dine from tables at Dal-Mar Banquet Hall at the FCDC haystack breakfast.

Nappanee dentist heads IU School of Dentistry Alumni Association board

NAPPANEE — Dr. Joe Baumgartner, a civic leader in north central Indiana and practicing dentist in Nappanee for 33 years, has been elected president of the Indiana University School of Dentistry Alumni Association board of directors.

Middle-schoolers learning more than academics

WAKARUSA — Learning in school is often focused on academic subjects. At NorthWood Middle School, a homeroom program allows students to voluntarily join clubs that teach them lessons beyond the classroom.
One such club is Silent Witness. This club began in 1992 when a group of middle school students at that time asked Mr. Brad Eby, eighth grade science teacher, if it was possible to have a Christian club. He was able to start the club that year.

Five minutes could mean $20 for B&G Club

BREMEN — What can a person do in five minutes? Unload the dishwasher? Get the mail and bring the recycling and trash bins back to their stationary posts until next pickup? Diaper a squirming baby ... or they can earn $20 for the local Boys and Girls Club.

‘Rudolph’ run Dec. 1

NAPPANEE — Runners, walkers and generous area residents can take part in an a fun event that began last year to benefit the Family Christian Development Center’s Christmas Jubilee.
“Run, Run, Rudolph!” is hosted by NorthWood’s National Honor Society members and will take place this year Saturday, Dec. 1 at McCormick Creek Golf Course.
Heather Bontrager has been with NorthWood for five years as a library media specialist and co-sponsor (with Dina Koble) of the NHS.

Volunteers work to fill neighborhood tables

NAPPANEE — A small army of volunteers took time out of their busy weekend schedules to assure that some tables in the neighborhood looked a little less sparse.
Nappanee United Methodist Church members and community volunteers involved in the annual “Million Can March” food drive had left empty grocery bags on doorknobs around Nappanee the week before, explaining the initiative.
