Timeless message in upcoming musical

WAKARUSA — Imagine a Christmas story that intertwines the inspiration from a classic, beloved musical with the timeless message about the true meaning of the holidays. 
That is what audiences will be witness to as the magic unfolds during “Nanny Claus,” a production by the fourth and fifth grade students of Wakarusa Elementary School. The musical presentation will take place Thursday, Dec. 6 at NorthWood High School, with the curtain rising at 7 p.m. 

‘Nite Out’ a community shopping overview

NAPPANEE — A night out on the town can mean different things for different people. A “Countryside Nite Out” on the town in Nappanee means shopping, savings and a chance to win one of five drawings for $300 of merchandise credit (Countryside Cash) to help shoppers check off more on their Christmas lists. Individual businesses will also offer store specials, refreshments, and giveaways of their own.

WAKARUSA — The latest session of the Wa-Nee Community Board of School Trustees was a true exercise in efficiency, as the members blazed through a spartan agenda in less than 10 minutes.
The first order of business Monday, Nov. 26 was to attend to a small slate of staffing changes, including the following new hires:
— Stephanie Lechlitner, Prime Time assistant at Woodview Elementary, effective Dec. 3
— Sharon Telschow, seventh grade Special Education assistant at NorthWood Middle, effective Jan. 7

NAPPANEE — Main Street Roasters in Nappanee is more than a coffee house with a warm and welcome ambiance where friends and family can meet. It's also not only a place where individuals can get comfortable to get their Internet fix and some quality quiet time. Marcus and Debra Miller work to make sure their business is one that will keep customers coming back for more. The Millers have four children so know how to make their coffee house a place that features an inviting, homey atmosphere. They started the business venture in 2003 opening the doors Dec. 18.

Maxinkuckee Singers to perform

The Maxinkuckee Singers, under the direction of Beth Webster, cordially invite the public to enjoy their annual Christmas concert, presented publicly in six performances. The group looks forward to sharing standards, contemporary, sacred numbers, comedy routines and featured soloists, sure to please audiences of all ages. All shows  will begin at 7:30 EST (6:30 CST in Knox) and there is no admission charge. This year there will be a five-minute intermission prior to the show’s surprise conclusion.

Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department teaming up with Toys for Tots

ELKHART — The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department is asking the community for help this year. It requests that members of the community help by donating a new unwrapped toy to the Toys for Tots collection drive.
The toy cannot be a realistic looking weapon or a gift that contains food. The public may bring in toys from now until Dec. 7 to drop off in the lobby of the Law Enforcement Center during normal business hours or the lobby of the Correctional Complex during their business hours.

1st Source Bank opens new banking center

NAPPANEE — 1st Source Bank opened its doors Nov. 19 at its brand new location at 1600 E. Market St. in Nappanee.
The new banking center has many conveniences including a coffee station and a business center for clients who need to use a fax machine, shredder, or computer while taking care of their banking. The banking center also includes an ATM and drive-up.

Center acknowledges generosity and volunteerism

NAPPANEE — The Family Christian Development Center (FCDC) is known in the area for feeding the less fortunate. In 2011 alone, the Center helped put food on the tables of 3,349 households, but the beginning of November, staff and volunteers met to enjoy one another’s company as well as dine from tables at Dal-Mar Banquet Hall at the FCDC haystack breakfast.

NAPPANEE — Dr. Joe Baumgartner, a civic leader in north central Indiana and practicing dentist in Nappanee for 33 years, has been elected president of the Indiana University School of Dentistry Alumni Association board of directors.
