Black Swish gets tripped up by Penn

NAPPANEE — With 0.8 seconds left and the Black Swish down three points, junior Morgan Olson pulled down Penn’s missed free throw and immediately called timeout. On the inbounds play needing to go the full length of the court Olson threw the ball just pass half-court to senior Savannah Bley. Bley turned and heaved the ball toward the basket.
The ball hit the rim, bounced off the backboard and onto the floor as the buzzer sounded.

Panthers top Triton 66-62 in season opener

NAPPANEE — Junior Jonathan Wilkinson scored 24 points and classmate Zach Zurcher added 18 as the NorthWood Panthers downed the Class 1A #4-ranked Triton Trojans 66-62 in the Panthers’ season opener at The Pit in Nappanee.
The scoring output by the NorthWood duo was topped by a combined 52 points from Triton’s Clay Yeo and Tanner Shepherd, but the rest of the Trojan squad could manage just 10 points together while the Panthers got at least four points from four other players in a true team effort.

Jubilee Dec. 8

NAPPANEE — Christmas Jubilee is coming up, Saturday, Dec. 8. Toys or financial gifts in support of Jubilee may be brought to FCDC on or before Dec. 7. Toys may also be dropped off at local businesses hosting Christmas Jubilee / Toys for Tots boxes in the Wakarusa and Nappanee area. All toys placed in these boxes will go to children in the Wa-Nee Community School District.

Join in reindeer games

Join in the reindeer games at the next Crafts for Kids day, Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Nappanee Public Library. Materials for a make-and-take reindeer paddle ball game will be available in the children’s department from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. During that time, stop in at the Main Street entrance to visit with Santa while you’re at the library and have a free picture taken with the Jolly Old Elf. Timeless message in upcoming musical

WAKARUSA — Imagine a Christmas story that intertwines the inspiration from a classic, beloved musical with the timeless message about the true meaning of the holidays. 
That is what audiences will be witness to as the magic unfolds during “Nanny Claus,” a production by the fourth and fifth grade students of Wakarusa Elementary School. The musical presentation will take place Thursday, Dec. 6 at NorthWood High School, with the curtain rising at 7 p.m. 

‘Nite Out’ a community shopping overview

NAPPANEE — A night out on the town can mean different things for different people. A “Countryside Nite Out” on the town in Nappanee means shopping, savings and a chance to win one of five drawings for $300 of merchandise credit (Countryside Cash) to help shoppers check off more on their Christmas lists. WAKARUSA — The latest session of the Wa-Nee Community Board of School Trustees was a true exercise in efficiency, as the members blazed through a spartan agenda in less than 10 minutes.
The first order of business Monday, Nov. 26 was to attend to a small slate of staffing changes, including the following new hires:
— Stephanie Lechlitner, Prime Time assistant at Woodview Elementary, effective Dec. 3
— Sharon Telschow, seventh grade Special Education assistant at NorthWood Middle, effective Jan. 7

NAPPANEE — Main Street Roasters in Nappanee is more than a coffee house with a warm and welcome ambiance where friends and family can meet. It's also not only a place where individuals can get comfortable to get their Internet fix and some quality quiet time. Marcus and Debra Miller work to make sure their business is one that will keep customers coming back for more. The Millers have four children so know how to make their coffee house a place that features an inviting, homey atmosphere. They started the business venture in 2003 opening the doors Dec. 18.

Maxinkuckee Singers to perform

The Maxinkuckee Singers, under the direction of Beth Webster, cordially invite the public to enjoy their annual Christmas concert, presented publicly in six performances. The group looks forward to sharing standards, contemporary, sacred numbers, comedy routines and featured soloists, sure to please audiences of all ages. All shows  will begin at 7:30 EST (6:30 CST in Knox) and there is no admission charge. This year there will be a five-minute intermission prior to the show’s surprise conclusion.
