Millers offer new menu, bigger portions

July 10, 2011

New menu. Bigger portions. Those are the two main things Steve and Vickie Miller have brought to the Dutch Kitchen restaurant (now Miller’s Dutch Kitchen) since they purchased the restaurant March 31. That and their giant tenderloin of course.
“Its a monster — plate-sized,” Vickie said. “We have an all-new dessert menu too including ‘whoopie pies.’ Those are very popular. And we added several items to our Saturday morning breakfast buffet like ‘overnight’ french toast and waffles.”

Street projects lead to two-way traffic

July 1, 2011

NAPPANEE — Summer roadwork along E. Lincoln Street has resulted in the decision to convert the 100 block of S. Elm Street to two-way traffic. Previously the area has been used only for southbound traffic.
Outlines of the work to be performed include blocking off entrances to the road from a major city parking lot, located on the north side. Changing traffic flow on south Elm will allow vehicles to enter and leave the parking lot, with access to E. Market Street (U.S. 6).
The 100 block of south Elm will continue allowing two-way traffic through September pending completion of the project.

Have tractor, will travel, with a purpose

June 22, 2011

NAPPANEE — “Have tractor, will travel” could be the slogan for Dave Wolfsen’s latest journey in life. The oldest of eight children of a dairy farmer, he has set out from Fremont, Mich. on his 1937, Farm Bureau Co-Op tractor to tour 48 states — and at 30 miles an hour. “At first we thought he was a little nuts,” laughed his sister, Diane DeRoos, who is the Resident Service Director of Heritage House. “But we’re trying to support him in any way we can.”
