HAMLET — Amy Jo Snyder, 48, of Hamlet, died Tuesday, March 22 at I.U. Health-LaPorte Hospital.  
She is survived by her husband, Rodney Snyder; sons: Joseph and Earl Robertson; father and mother, Robert and Trudie Duncan; sisters: Teresa Casgrove, Julie Loftis and Kellie Stark; and  brothers: Robert, James and Jeff Duncan.  
Visitation was held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 26 at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel.
Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to Rannells Funeral Home.

Police chase nets drug bust

KNOX — Tad Gentry of Knox faces numerous charges after he was arrested Wednesday afternoon March 16 after a brief police chase in Starke County.
Deputy Rob Olejniczak from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department spotted a vehicle being driven by Gentry on Ind. 8 at 1025 East. Gentry allegedly had false and fictitious plates and no driver’s license.

Knox man sentenced to 14 years in Indiana prison

KNOX — Rodney Craft will serve 14 years in Indiana state prisons following sentences handed down in Starke Circuit Court on Thursday, March 17.
Craft plead guilty in a plea agreement to possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with a prior conviction, possession of methamphetamine, failure to appear, escape, and possession of chemical reagents or precursors with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine.

HAMLET — Hamlet Police Department officers recovered a stolen vehicle after a traffic stop the night of March 17, taking two suspects to the Starke County Jail.
While on routine patrol, officers spotted a vehicle matching the description of a truck that was stolen in the Knox area the previous week. Officers ran the plate through the Starke County Sheriff’s Department and it was confirmed as the stolen vehicle. Adam Makowski was arrested and charged with theft, receiving stolen property and possession of marijuana.

NJ-SP teens claim super bowl championship

NORTH JUDSON — The North Judson-San Pierre High School Academic Super Bowl team is the 2011 Northwest Hoosier Academic Conference champion. Accumulating 82 points, the Bluejays handily earned first place against rival Lowell which placed second with 73 points and Rensselaer, the third place finisher with 72 points.
The Bluejays competed at River Forest on Tuesday, March 15, against six other teams: Kankakee Valley, Lake Station Edison, Lowell, North Newton, Rensselaer and River Forest.

New firewood rules for campers

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Natural Resources Commission approved a new policy to manage firewood use at state properties and also set in motion a proposal to make it a permanent rule.
The two-step approach will allow the Department of Natural Resources to implement the change now permanent guidelines go through a nine-to-12-month process.
The intent is to protect resources on state properties against the spread of emerald ash borer, gypsy moth, Asian longhorned beetle, and other pests and pathogens that can be transported in firewood.

The Knox High School National Honor Society inducted new members Thursday, March 17, at 7 p.m. During the ceremony, they recognized a group of exceptional ladies and gentlemen for their academic, service, character, and leadership abilities.
