May 27, 2011

The Leader would like to wish you all a safe and happy holiday weekend.
And during the course of your festivities and fun, take a moment to thank a vet, remember a family who has lost a loved one to war; and offer up a prayer of safety for all of our young men and women who are currently fighting for our right to observe holidays such as this one.

Texting while driving becomes illegal July 1

May 27, 2011

KNOX — Beginning July 1, it will be illegal for any Hoosier driver to text while behind the wheel. Indiana is the 32nd state to impose a texting while driving ban.
Recently, Governor Mitch Daniels signed legislation that prohibits the use of any telecommunications device to type, transmit, or read text messages or email while operating a moving motor vehicle. Drivers are however permitted to use hands free or voice operated technology to perform these functions.

How does your garden grow

May 27, 2011

Spring is officially here and with warmer weather, locals are planting their flowers, bulbs, and more, to either brighten up the landscape or put fresh foods on the table. We would love to feature you, working or lounging in your garden, but we need your help. Please send in a color photo of yourself, including your first and last name, your town, and tell us a little bit about your garden. We will run photos until the cold weather wilts away all your hard work. Mail them (and a self-addressed, stamped envelope if you want it returned) to The Leader, 15 N.

Gas, groceries rise: Tempers too

May 18, 2011

KNOX— Consumers are feeling the burn at the pumps from the increase in fuel — but that's not the only place where shoppers can feel a mightier tug on their purse strings. The local grocery is another area that has been impacted by the soaring price of gasoline.
"That grocery store is charging $6.99 for a jar of Miracle Whip and the mayo. I paid the $6.99 because I needed it. Later, I found the mayo for $2.99 at another local store. I was so mad," Lisa Shepherd of Knox said.
