KNOX — Forty-one years after being listed as Missing in Action (MIA) in Vietnam, funeral services for CW3 George A "Andy" Howes will be held Tuesday, Aug. 2 at 7 p.m., with visitation at 5 p.m. at the Knox Community Center, located at 55 E. Lake St., Knox.

Monterey teen suffers heat stroke

MONTEREY — Everyone has felt the extreme heat that has been beating down on Indiana for the last week, but for one person, the combination of extreme heat and physical labor for several hours may have been too much for his body to endure.
On Friday, July 22 Austin Gabric, a 17- -year-old Monterey resident, had been bailing hay for several hours at his neighbor’s house in the sweltering heat when he began feeling like something was wrong.

MONTEREY — R.B. Ware Sr., 83, of Monterey died July 19, 2011.
He is survived by his wife, Harriet (Caldwell) Ware of Monterey; son, R.B. Ware Jr. of Kankakee, Ill,; daughters: Angeline (Kevin) Back of Culver, Phyllis (Freddie) Hogan Miller of Michigan City, Lucille (Aubrey) Burt of Kankakee, Ill., Carole Hayes of Monterey; brother, R.T. Roberts of Evansville; sisters: Pearlie Williams of Lonoke, Ark., Fannie Hill of Stutguard, Ark.; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

• A resident in the 6400 block of South County Road 210 in Knox reported a garage on the property he cares for was broken into and items were stolen.

• A resident in the 700 block of North U.S. 35 in Knox informed police that someone had broken into their shed.

• Carol Johnson from Knox reported a theft from her vehicle.
• A resident in the 6800 block of Homette Drive in Knox reported money had been stolen from her bank account after she gave her account information to a business in England.

Two new directors for county

Two new directors will soon be learning the ropes as they work toward replacing the current employees after their appointments were approved by the commissioners at their recent meeting. The new EMS director selected by the EMS Committee is Paul Mathewson from Coldwater, Ohio.

Richard H. Cormican
July 1, 2011
KOONTZ LAKE — Richard "Rick" H. Cormican, 56, of Koontz Lake, died Friday, July 1, 2011 in his home.
Survivors include three sisters: Sharon Coldiron of South Bend, Janet Coldiron of LaPorte, and Penny Maloney of Knox; and one brother, James Cormican Jr. of Mishawaka.
Visitation was Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday one hour prior to the services at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 7 at 11 a.m. CDT at the funeral home. Burial was in Grovertown Cemetery.

· On July 4, a resident in the 300 Block of N. 650 E. in Knox reported two stray black and brown German shepherds got into his kennel and killed his turkeys.
· On July 4, a resident in the 3800 Block of N. 900 E. in Grovertown reported someone has been stealing her solar lights and destroying them.
· On July 4, a resident in the 8900 Block of S. 1175 E. in Culver reported Amanda Wicker spit in William Hurts’ face and was battering the resident’s husband.
