Culver women 'paint the town pink' for breast cancer awareness

November 5, 2011

Culver residents Karen Easterday and Sue Roth wanted breast cancer to get some attention during the month -- October -- dedicated to its awareness, and it seems fair to say they succeeded handily. It's hard to miss two women decked out in bright pink, adorned with pink feather boas, and wearing t-shirts with the text, "Yes they're fake -- my real ones tried to kill me!" as they walk through the business districts of Culver.

That visibility, of course, was the whole point, say Easterday and Roth, both of whom have battled the disease and won.

"It started as a joke," says Roth.

Hank Bilsland, noting he had addressed the council a few months prior in hopes it would vote for or against the project, in which some 60 windmills would be placed near Culver and Argos, among other locales. He said he received an email describing comments made at the previous

If these walls could talk: building stone in Culver, part 1

November 1, 2011

EDITOR'S NOTE: Continuing our series of virtual ‘walks’ through Culver’s historic buildings, we take a brief hiatus for a fascinating look at the stonework making up our iconic buildings. We’re fortunate to have an expert in the field to guide us on our journey, in the form of Paul McLeod (learn more about Paul in his bio at the end of this article). We’ll return to our trip up Main Street following this article, which will likely run in three parts.
