Donors' gifts enrich lives at Culver Millers

February 3, 2011

When beloved, life-long Culver businessman and community servant Bill Snyder died last year, his family knew they wanted to do something to thank the staff and administration at Miller's Merry manor nursing home in Culver not only for all they did for Snyder, but for all they do in general. Recently that appreciation manifested itself tangibly in a large, brand-new, flat-screen television for use in Millers' dining room, something which will benefit all residents as well as staff.

Culver Clem has candidly cautioned that his career curve doesn't coincide with Chuck's but will call with caution his conclusions for this year.
Explaining that Daylight Savings Time has drastically dulled and disrupted his disposition, he duly noted that he would retreat to his den for six more weeks.

Culver coach hopes to share fencing passion in Marshall County via new academy

January 29, 2011

Anyone who’s watched “Zorro,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” even “Star Wars,” or other films showcasing swashbuckling swordplay can appreciate Rebecca Schneider’s initial interest in the sport of fencing. And now, as part of her passion for bringing the sport to the Marshall County community, they can also try their hand at a few moves...or possibly embark on a lifelong love of fencing as Schneider herself wound up (inadvertently doing), starting in the early 1990s.

The craft, which would be custom-made for the department according to rescue and safety standards, would be used primarily for ice rescues if purchased. Funding for the purchase would come from both the department's town-based budget and the Union Township budget. Township Trustee Jerry Greason -- as well as Township board member Bill Githens -- was on hand to observe.
