December 6, 2011

Many months of planning and hard work are coming to fruition as the first ten years' worth of a planned digitization of the complete back catalog of The Culver Citizen newspaper is now available, fully searchable and readable, online.

The collection is part of the launch of a new website for the Antiquarian and Historical Society of Culver, www.culverahs.com (replacing the past site, culverhistory.com, though that address will remain active for a time during transition to the new site).

Culver councilman alleges wind turbine photos mislead - owner defends

December 3, 2011

A few weeks ago, Culver resident Hank Bilsland defended photographs he’d commissioned of wind turbines placed at Lake Winnebago in Wisconsin following a suggestion by Culver town council member Ralph Winters that the photos could have been digitally enhanced to give the turbines a more ominous appearance. At last week’s regular town council meeting, Winters revisited the debate with a set of photographs he’d taken himself at the same site, accompanied by wife Barbara on what he called a “road trip” the two recent undertook to the Wisconsin site.

The Lady Zebras held the 5-11 freshman forward to 2 of 5 from the field and just five points, and Rochester’s veteran squad held off the young Cavaliers late for a 47-41 victory at John R. Nelson Gymnasium Wednesday night in a make up of a snow-out Tuesday.

Culver Academies Head of Schools discuses wind farm proposition

November 28, 2011

Culver Academies, acknowledges Head of Schools John Buxton, has been noticably silent regarding one issue it seems is on nearly everyone's tongues: the proposed placement of a "wind farm" of some 60 wind turbines, each around 500 feet high, in the Fulton and Marshall County areas. Specifically, a number of the towers are likely to be visible from various points along Lake Maxinkuckee, a fact which has led various entities -- including the Lake Maxinkuckee Environmental Council and Culver's parks and recreations board -- to make formal statements against the project.
