Van crashes into Culver area barn

February 18, 2011

ByDelilah Bingle, Correspondent
CULVER — A Plymouth woman was airlifted Tues-day after driving into a barn.
The Culver-Union Town-ship Fire and EMS were called to the scene at 15034 S.R. 17, on the north side of Burr Oak.
Connie Goad, 45, was eastbound on 15th Road, and as she approached S.R. 17, police said she was driving faster than the speed limit and became airborne — traveling about 30 feet before striking a concrete embankment. She then traveled another 50 feet in the air before crashing through a barn on the Overmyer Homestead.

Details on both games, and additional photos, appear in this week's edition of the Culver Citizen, and will appear on this website soon.

The Culver Antiquarian Society interviewed a group of relatives and friends of the Vonneguts and thoroughly researched the family. They placed materials on the library site that have been called by Vonnegut researchers the best collection of Vonnegut family records in the state.

Remembering Mike Schwartz: a 2010 article and his Relay kickoff speech

February 15, 2011

Culver Community High School teacher and Business Professionals of America sponsor Mike Schwartz died Saturday following a lengthy battle with cancer. What follows is the text of a story on Mike from the January 14, 2010 edition of the Culver Citizen. Following that are excerpts from Mike's speech to CCHS students as part of a Relay for Life kickoff event in early 2010.

When Culver Community High School teacher Mike Schwartz learned recently doctors had found melanoma spots on his lungs and he’d soon be starting chemo therapy, he understandably began to focus on his worries.

Elizabeth's Garden, celebrating 10 years, offers Valentine's variety

February 12, 2011

Customs and trends come and go, but in Culver as elsewhere, Valentine’s Day remains a day for presenting one’s sweetheart with flowers. This Valentine’s Day, as has been the case for a decade now, Elizabeth’s Garden is the place in Culver to facilitate that time-honored tradition.
The florist and gift shop, at 104 Plymouth Street, will celebrate its 10th anniversary here on April 9. Before Elizabeth (Beauchamp when she first opened, but Thompson since 2006) opened her business, it had been several years since Culver had a local florist.
