Homecoming game, parade Friday
Culver Community High School’s annual homecoming parade will start at 6 p.m. at the high school and march through town. The game (against Bremen) will begin at 7 p.m., and will include the traditional crowning of the homecoming king and queen.

Maxinkuckee Indian chief monument will be dedicated Friday
The public is invited this Friday, Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. to the town park for the dedication of a historical marker for Chief Nas-wau-kee of Lake Maxinkuckee's east shore.

Park board debates restroom placement in historic structure, ending swimming fees

Debate arose last week over whether to convert part of the 1880s-era railroad waiting station turned picnic pavilion at the town park into public restrooms, at the monthly meeting of the Culver Parks and Recreation board. Discussion ensued last Wednesday evening after park director Kelly Young outlined hoped-for projects in the coming months and year for the park following finalization of its budget in October or November.

Culver teen dead in wkd crash

ROYAL CENTER, Ind. - A Culver teen is among three
dead following a pre-dawn crash Saturday in Royal Center.
Bruce Leearmel Wireman, 19, of Culver, died along wth
Erron Stoddard and Brandon Lee Miller, both of Winamac
and also 19, in an auto wreck the Cass County Sheriff's
Department has said may have been the result of alcohol,
speed, and heavy fog at the time of the accident. All three
teens died of blunt force trauma and massive internal injuries,
and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Interim pastor hopes to help Grace, First United see community potential

Pastor AnnMarie Kneebone says her strengths include her enthusiasm and helping people see their potential, both traits ideal for an interim pastor like herself.
Kneebone began her time as interim -- replacing Pastor Robin Keating, who left earlier this year -- at both Grace United Church of Christ in Culver and First United Church of Christ in Plymouth, in June, though she actually moved to Culver in July.

Academies building projects bring major changes, top-notch facilities

As the entire country prepares to remember the event which arguably defined the lives of a generation -- the attacks on America on September 11, 2001 -- during this, the tenth anniversary of its occurance, we pay a visit to two Culverites (one past and one present)
who were there for the attacks. It happens both men were at the Pentagon that day for work-related reasons, though both have somewhat different perspectives on the attacks.

Hogan powers Cavs to win at New Prairie

Culver Community senior running back Kevin Hogan ground out 212 yards for four touchdowns, and the Cavaliers claimed a Northern State Conference win on the road at New Prairie Friday, 34-26.
Hogan averaged better than 17 yards per carry as he ran amok at New Prairie, scoring on touchdown runs of 84, 34, 1 and 61 yards.

CGA’s Shipley earns spot on Ashland soccer team

ASHLAND, Ohio — Kylee Shipley of Culver has earned a spot on the Ashland University women’s soccer team. Shipley, a 2011 Culver Girls Academy graduate, is majoring in exercise science.

Coat drop off Saturday
The L'Max Film Festival committee will hold a coat and winter wear drop-off for those who didn't attend last weekend's rainy festival Saturday. Items (or financial donations towards heating costs) may be dropped off between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the depot-train station on Lake Shore Drive this Saturday, Sept. 10.

Culver Comm. board changes, hires, and CCHS grad takes teaching reins

Culver's Dave Cooper has replaced Culver Community School Corporation board member Gene Baker as the board's town district representative, as appointed at the board's last meeting.
Baker resigned from the board due to taking a position as the Culver Community High School's business education instructor, a position left vacant with the death of longtime business teacher Mike Schwartz. Baker, himself a graduate of Culver Community High School, had been a business teacher at LaVille High School prior to his accepting the job here this past summer.
