Culver salon part of team to give cancer-fighting woman a 'gorgeous' day

September 29, 2011

It wasn’t until Shari Kirkland and her husband pulled up in front of Michelle’s Headquarters on Culver’s Main Street earlier this month that Shari began to guess at what was in store.
That’s because a van with the “Hello Gorgeous” moniker was parked nearby, and Kirkland had seen a television news report on the organization recently.
“I had a blast,” she says of what followed, “and I wish more (hairdressers) would get involved. I’ve never had a pedicure or manicure before, and nobody’s washed my hair since I was a little kid! So it was good -- everybody was so friendly.”

Albert Hanselman, administrator, introduced Cameron Turney to give the board members her unbiased opinion of the iPad.

September 26, 2011

Culver resident Jean Triplet may represent the last local link to the bygone days of small-town pharmacies, so well remembered by many here. After 49 years in the business, Triplet has retired from CVS Pharmacy in Culver, though her earliest years behind the drug-store counter were at beloved local pharmacy Mr. T's.

Council won’t weigh in on wind farm controversy

September 23, 2011

Culver's town council has dropped any plans to hear from the Florida-based energy company propsing a wind farm in the Fulton and Marshall County area, after members cited too many differences of opinion to hope to reach a resolution on the matter.
Discussing a suggestion made by some audience members the council's previous meeting, that the council should take a position on the controversial project, council member Ed Pinder said members discussed the matter.

On hand was the chief’s great, great, great grand-niece Michale Edwards, who traveled from Oklahoma for the event and who discussed with the audience her discovery of her relation to the chief, who she described as “gentle, mild-mannered, and trusting.”

Lions spoil Culver homecoming, 20-13

September 17, 2011

For all the impressive numbers Bremen’s offense has generated this season, it was the Lions’ defense that made the difference Friday.
The Bremen defensive unit held on two key goal line stands in the first and second quarters, and a scoreless first half came back to haunt the Cavaliers as Lions quarterback Nate Leeper connected with receiver Ben Hueni for a 37-yard go-ahead touchdown strike with just over a minute on the game clock to give the Green Machine a 20-13 homecoming spoiler on the road at Culver.
