A Culver Thanksgiving past...

November 24, 2011

In honor of Thanksgiving day, here's an article published a few years ago in the Thanksgiving edition of the Culver Citizen...

The town of Culver, like most small American towns, doesn’t have much in the way of Thanksgiving traditions besides the feast-laden gatherings of family members common to most of the country. Culver Academy, however, has a long and rich Thanksgiving tradition dating back to the early days of the school’s 113-year existence, according to Academies historian Bob Hartman.

Culver couple's in-home surprise makes for truly local birth

November 23, 2011

Not many alive in Culver today can say they were actually born inside the town of Culver.

Of course, not many parents can say they managed an unexpected, impromptu delivery in their home on a Friday morning here, either, but Janet Halling and husband Don Baker can say just that, and recently-born son Leo Griffin Baker can lay claim to being a true-born Culverite, right there on South Main Street, at his parents' home.

Culver Girls Academy girls basketball preview

November 20, 2011

CULVER — Culver Girls Academy graduated four starters from last season’s sectional championship campaign.

Add to that the unique position of being a boarding school and the fact that players live hundreds of miles apart in the offseason, and it’s taking the Lady Eagles awhile to start gelling.

Culver Community girls basketball preview

November 19, 2011

CULVER — Culver Community head coach Tony Scheub recoils at the mention of a “rebuilding season.”

Despite the graduation of the Lady Cavaliers’ top five scorers from last season’s groundbreaking 25-2 regional, Northern State Conference and Bi-County championship squad, Scheub’s expectations for this year’s squad are high.

Students raise funds at Culver games

November 19, 2011

Culver Community High School sophomore Kayla Schaffer will be doing more than playing her best during basketball season this year.
Schaffer, along with three other students in BEAM (Bettering Every Aspect of Marshall County, a Marshall County Community Foundation program) has organized donation drives for every Culver Community home game this season.

"It's just going to help (us) reach out to the community," said Schaffer. "There are a lot of people really needing things right now."
