Indy 500 centenniel puts Maxinkuckee car in spotlight again

As the world tunes in to the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 this Sunday, once again one of the longest-standing families of Lake Maxinkuckee is also in the spotlight, even if our tranquil Northern Indiana haven is left unmentioned in all the celebration and observation of the world’s most famous auto race.
On May 30, 1911, Ray Harroun drove the famous Marmon ‘Wasp’ (owned by Howard Marmon) over the finish line to complete the first Indy 500 race.

Taste of Culver returns June 18 - will feature Caribbean theme

The Culver Chamber of Commerce's annual Taste of Culver festival will be back next month, and this time organizers plan to focus on the sun and fun aspect of the community and the event with a natural fit: a Caribbean theme.
This according to one of the main organizers, Patty Stallings, who shared details of this year's festival with members of Culver's Kiwanis Club last Thursday during the Club's regular meeting at the Culver Public Library.

Monterey Elementary will host good-bye open house on school's final day

Monterey Elementary School will hold an Open House entitled "Celebrate Monterey Elementary" on the students' last day, Thursday, June 2, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The event, says Monterey 6th grade teacher Todd Shafer, "is just a time for the community to come and take a quick look back at MES. There will be a slideshow and refreshments during this time."

Want to play with the trains at the Culver Academies Museum & Gift Shop? Special Open House May 31

The community is invited to an open house to view The Culver Academies Museum & Gift Shop's new working model train layout Tuesday, May 31, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Present will be Academies senior Lawrence Dann-Fenwick, a Lake Forest, Ill. native, four year senior, and the current Unit Commander of Troop B, began work on the layout last November as part of his senior service project at the school.

The 4.5 by 6 foot layout is a tribute to that used by the student train club for nearly 40 years, located under the school's dining
