Culver Boys & Girls Club auction June 15 offers host of items, entertainment

Have you ever wanted to go to the Kentucky Derby or receive flight instruction? How about staying in a house in Vermont or a condo in Colorado? For those wanting to stay close to home, Culver merchants have graciously donated use of their services and facilities.

These are among the items up for bid at the Culver Boys & Girls Club annual fundraiser, “Building Brighter Futures,” Friday, June 15 at the Lay Dining Facility on the Culver Academies campus from 6 to 9:30 p.m.
The evening includes a silent auction with over 175 items, a delicious buffet dinner, and a premier live auction.

Wesley picnic, brunch Sunday
Wesley United Methodist Church’s 5th annual brunch and auction at the depot/town park will take place Sunday, June 10. Worship will start at 9 a.m., with brunch served at 10 and the live auction commencing at 11 a.m. Attendees are en­couraged to bring personal items (such as shampoo, toothpaste, and any other personal hygiene prod­uct or paper products) or a monetary donation for the brunch, which will go to the Culver food pantry.

Lions anniversary a night to remember for CCHS students, Fellows recipients, more

By any measure, May 23 was a night to remember for the Culver Lions Club.

First, it was a night for the club, celebrating its 69th anniversary, to hear­ken back to earlier years as the most active and accom­plished club in the commu­nity for decades running. This was accomplished through a digital slideshow of earlier scenes and com­mentary by several mem­bers.

Culver students inducted into Fine Arts Honor Society

Culver Academies inducted three local students into the Fine Arts Honor Society April 28, during the spring Parents Weekend. Fine Arts Honor Society inductees are students who, in the opinion of the Fine Arts faculty, “demonstrate a dedication to craft through purposeful practice, accomplishing the highest standard in performance and exhibition.”

Free children’s lunches served in Culver Comm. Schools area this summer

June 5, 2012

Area children 18 years of age and younger and people with disabilities (regardless of age) who participate in special education programs are eligible for a free meal through the Summer Food Service Program for Children (SFSP) at the following locations, according to Culver Comm. Schools food service director Carin Clifton (all other adults may purchase a lunch for $3 and/or a breakfast for $1.50). All meals must be eaten on site.

CUTPL kicks off summer reading Weds. with live animal show

As Culver Public Library Youth Services manager Ali Gaskill explained to the Culver Elementary students who filed into the library class by class recently, this year’s summer reading activities, displays, and prizes will follow the themes “Dream Big” (for kids), and “Own the Night” (for teens).

The program kicks off with an opening event Weds., June 6, at 1:30 p.m., with a hands-on animal show from animal conservation/education organization, Indiana Wild.

CULVER - On Thursday, May 31, the Culver Police Department, acting on information received through the Starke County Sheriffs office, served a search warrant at 515 W. Jefferson St. in Culver.

Culver High School reunion slated for June 22

June 2, 2012

A reunion has been scheduled for Culver High School (CHS) alumni on Friday, June 22 at the Culver Elementary School gymnasium. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and close at 9:30 p.m.

Honored CHS classes will include those of 1967, 1962, 1957, 1952, 1947, 1942 and any other class ending with a “2” or “7” which has an alumnus or alumna attending the reunion, though CHS alumni from all years are welcome, as are those who attended CHS for only a few years.

The top five students at Culver Community High School, class of 2012 are (in alphabetical order): Aspen Kitchell, Joseph Krsek, Kalee Miller, Cam­eron Turney and Cassan­dra VanSky.

Graduation exercises are Friday, June 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the school’s gym­nasium. Albert Hansel­man, Principal, will present the class and Brad Schuldt, Superintendent, will award the diplomas.

Farmer's Market is open
Culver’s Farmer’s Mar­ket has opened, at the cor­ner of Jefferson and Ohio Streets near downtown Cul­ver. Every Saturday, ven­dors will be selling items from 9 a.m. to noon.
