Papa’s to celebrate anniversary as Culver's longest-running restaurant

May 19, 2012

Some might think it odd that Culver's longest-running restaurant (and possibly the longest-running in Marshall County) is celebrating its 36th anniversary this summer -- after all, why not 35, last year? Or wait until 40?

But Brian McCormack, co-founder and owner of Papa's in Culver thinks making the restaurant’s 36th a big bash fits the "unconventional" identity of the longtime local favorite, which opened its doors this week (May 16) in 1976.

"We did an after-prom pizza party," he says of the restaurant's very first day. "That was our first run at it."

Culver 6th graders' brush with the bard

May 16, 2012

A longtime Monterey Elementary School tradition continued recently at Culver Elementary School when students performed in William Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” onstage in the gymnasium. Directed by 6th grade teacher Todd Shafer, in his first year at Culver Elementary from MES, the play continued the annual pattern of an “updated” and shortened version of the play, punctuated by humor and narration explaining the story.

Crowd favorites, says Shafer, included Cody Rieckhoff as Sir Toby Belch, Caleb Sheridan as Malvolio, and Payton Lowry as the jester, Feste.
