Culver school board formally hires new superintendent

November 29, 2013

In a contrast to last week's heated and debate-laden public hearing, the Culver Community School board voted unanimously at its Nov. 25 meeting to hire Dr. Vicki McGuire as its new superintendent of schools, replacing outgoing superintendent Brad Schuldt as of Jan. 1.

Between 20 and 30 audience members remained largely quiet during the meeting, as opposed to the Nov. 18 meeting, during which some Culver Comm. High School faculty members questioned the selection process and the choice not to promote current CCHS principal Albert Hanselman to the superintendent position.

November 22, 2013

The Culver Youth Community Organization (CYCO), a service organization comprised of students from Culver Community High School and the Culver Academies, is reviving a long-defunct Culver tradition this year in the form of a outdoor Christmas decorating contest for the Culver area.

Longtime Culver residents may recall the longtime annual decorating contest sponsored for years by the Culver Chamber of Commerce and Jaycees, respectively, though that contest ended more than two decades ago.

EMS funding, future detailed at special town council session

November 22, 2013

Though tensions ran high at a recent meeting of Culver's town council regarding the future of Culver's Emergency Medical Service, the special follow-up work session on the subject, which took place prior to last Tuesday's council meeting, seemed a very different story. In fact, by the end of the meeting, many in the audience and on the council were lauding the work of EMS director Brandon Cooper in explaining the department's funding, future plans, and steps towards compliance with new state mandates regarding EMS training scheduled to kick in next July.

Geiselman “Lives United” in her advocacy for transportation services

November 16, 2013

CULVER – “Live United” isn't just a slogan. It's a way of life for one active Culver senior. Her journey, recently shared with the United Way of Marshall County, shows that community engagement sometimes involves lending a hand. And sometimes it means lending your voice to support a cause and help build a better life for all.

Jeanette Geiselman figures that she has paid her dues.

“I'm originally from Rochester,” she said, adding with a laugh, “but I married a man from Culver and I've been here 60 years so I imagine Culver has accepted me by now.”
