Public transport for seniors in Culver could increase

April 14, 2013

The Culver community could see a dramatic increase in public transportation in the foreseeable future, provided municipal funds can be made available to bring the notion to fruition.

At a Culver town council work session March 26, members of the council discussed the matter with Jackie Wright of the Marshall County Council on Aging, after town manager Dave Schoeff invited Wright to speak in response to a request and subsequent survey on the matter.

Council talks advertising signs, other issues

April 6, 2013

A number of area businesses promoted through yard signs around Culver will soon have to remove those signs, or pay hefty fines as a consequence, according to Culver's plan commission as discussed at last week's meeting of the Culver town council.

Plan commission member Ralph Winters told the council a letter would be sent to area contractors and other businesses explaining the details of the decision. Advertising signs promoting enterprises not located on the premises of the enterprise, said Winters, are not permitted.

If these walls could talk: 215 W. Jefferson

April 2, 2013

CULVER HISTORY CORNER

In our last installment of this “virtual” walk through Culver -- which began with the downtown area -- we strolled west on Jefferson Street, meandering further from what’s typically considered the downtown business district. However, there are now, and have been for much of the 20th century, several businesses along that corridor into Culver from the outside world.

Just across the alley to the west of our last stop (today’s CVS Pharmacy), we come to what current Culverites know of as Hammer’s Garage, at 215 W. Jefferson.
