Specifically, many among the wide array of opinions expressed indicated Culver is a community struggling to come to terms with its identity, and to forge a plan arising from whatever identity it wishes to embrace.

If these walls could talk...West Jefferson Street

April 29, 2013

Returning to our ongoing series of "virtual" walks through commercial buildings of Culver, we just left Hammer's Garage at Jefferson and Slate Streets, and we've got a few more stops to make before we leave this side of town.

It might be easy to forget that the west end of Jefferson Street has long been one of the "gateways" to town, in this case from today's State Road 17 (though it hasn't always been so). It's a logical place for some business presence, as is evidenced by what remains in that area today.

Discussion of promotion of Culver tourism and activities -- and sources of their funding -- took center stage among members of Culver's town council during a work session last week which preceded the regularly scheduled meeting the same evening.

Council member Ginny Munroe had previously requested the topic be placed on the agenda, and at the April 9 work session she discussed the level of support the town as a municipality should give to merchant-planned events and local businesses in general.
