Culver-Titanic connection program to replace ‘Huckleberry Queen’ Saturday

August 13, 2014

Due to a family illness, presenter Anna Liechty of Plymouth will be unable to perform this Saturday as the “Huckleberry Queen” of Marshall County (that program is expected to be rescheduled for next summer).

Instead, Jeff Kenney will present a new program on the survivor of the sinking of the Titanic ship who settled in Culver, and the still-standing maple trees planting here in honor of a family who died on the ship, by the patriarch of that family. The remarkable story of their interweaving lives and those of Culver families will be told via an audiovisual program narrated by Kenney.

New Wesley pastor talks preschool, daycare, and his unusual path to faith

August 10, 2014

As many in Culver already know, Wesley United Methodist Church's new pastor, Rev. Tom Harzula, is in town, along with his wife Jenelle and two-year-old son, Tommy.

Pastor Harzula arrives here all the way from Dillsboro, Indiana, near Cincinnati, something he says is "an answered prayer," due to the proximity of Culver to his wife's family's businesses in the Knox and North Judson area (the family owns several franchise businesses).

Before the transfer, the two often only saw one another on weekends.

Culver park board discusses drowning incident, other matters

August 3, 2014

Discussing what he called a "very sad and tough situation," Culver park superintendent Marc Hayden said counselors from the Bowen Center in Plymouth visited beach staff following a drowning off the beach earlier this month.

Hayden -- addressing the Culver park board during its July 14 meeting -- noted Bowen Center assistance was made available via a recently-inaugurated employee assistance program for town employees, and that counselors would visit the park staff to discuss needs or questions -- especially on the part of younger staffers -- any staff might have following the incident.
