Board looks at possibility of bus route expansion; success of computer implementation in education

BREMEN — The board of trustees for Bremen Schools looked at the possibility and viability of widening its regular bus route to encourage more students into the district.
Board member Todd Stuckman proposed the idea and presented a Power Point outline to “get conversation started and ideas going.” He noted that the Bremen Schools had one of the smallest transportation districts in the state and a 826-student capacity on its buses and 657 riders.

BREMEN — For the second year in a row, both Bremen High School and Bremen Elementary-Middle School have earned a grade of “A” from the Indiana Department of Education.

BREMEN — There’s something new being sold at Koontz Hardware — something worth salivating over — and it isn’t the latest in socket wrenches. Kent Koontz explained the line of The Dutch Kettle LLC salsas and sauces is something he likes and not only because of its taste or popularity, but because the foodstuffs are made locally.
“This is a Bremen product made by Bremen people,” he explained. “It’s not just good, but good for the town’s economy.”

Annual lighting ceremony is Nov. 21

BREMEN — The Town of Bremen invites the public to the annual Christmas Lighting Ceremony Nov. 21 starting at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Bremen.  The winner of the annual holiday coloring contest will also have the honor or lighting the streets of Bremen.
Santa will visit at the Santa House on the corner of Plymouth and Center streets that Wednesday and will return Saturdays: Nov. 24 and Dec. 1, 8, 15, and 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to visit with local children.

BHS Alumni game Nov. 17

Performers return to Bremen

BREMEN — Leslie Lee and Steve Gretz will return to perform in concert Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. at First United Church of Christ, 323 S. Center St., Bremen. In 2007 the couple moved to Rochester, N.Y.

BREMEN — Randy Ziolkowski is a down-to-earth, self-taught chef. Although he doesn’t encourage being called a chef, he has proven he is just that. At his restaurant, Edward Christian Barbecue, 115 W. Plymouth St., Ziolkowski makes his 13 sauces all naturally, from scratch, as well as his rubs and seasonings. His product line will be available in the restaurant and online around Thanksgiving time.

RBC Precision Products latest recipient of the ‘Pride of Bremen’ distinction

BREMEN — A local business is the most recent recipient of the local beautification accolade, the Pride of Bremen Award. The honor was established more than 16 years ago and is given to owners of homes and businesses in the community who have made improvements to make the structures and land more attractive. The nominees are suggested by town board members, and other town officials or residents.

Halloween party winners

Tuesday, Oct. 30 the Bremen Kiwanis held a successful party for local children with 147 participating in the costume contest — more than ever in previous years. 
Winners are their categories are as follows:
Ages 0 through 2 — first place, Alex Martinez as Dracula; second, Colton Town as a scarecrow; and third place, Blakeli Soliz and Minnie Mouse
Ages 3 and 4 — first place, Sofia Sahlhoff as a bumblebee; second, Chase Devine as a mummy; and third place, Grant Beery as a skeleton
