Over-exertion blamed as cause of death

BREMEN — Marshall County recorded its first weather-related death Tuesday, Jan. 3 after 81-year-old Mary Kehr of Beech Road, Bremen, was found unconscious and not breathing by passers by who found her in the snow in front of her residence.

BREMEN — It isn’t every day that a wild woodpecker drops in for a visit and it’s even more unnatural that a feral animal would take to a human it was unfamiliar with. 
Jan. 3 was that day for Peni and Lawrence Lippert who found a feathered friend at their 1st Road home.

BREMEN — Area chambers of commerce have collectively chosen positions regarding legislative issues that members feel directly affect their individual communities.
Each chamber involved with the Regional Chamber of Northeast Indiana received a basic draft from another chamber lobbyist and then gave input for a completed draft.

New baby for a new year

BREMEN — She isn’t Baby New Year but she is the newest baby born in the new year in Bremen.
Allison Danae Miller (Danae being the first name of her mother’s younger sister), was born at 10:23 p.m. Jan. 3, 2012 at Community Hospital of Bremen. Her parents, Debra and Marcus Miller, Nappanee, welcomed the 6 pound, 10 ounce, 20 inch-long bundle of joy to the family, as did her 7-year-old and 2-year-old sisters, and 4-year-old brother. 
“They haven’t had a whole lot of time to get to know her,” said proud dad Marcus the next afternoon, “but they love her!”

Toddler Story Time to begin Jan. 11

BREMEN — Bremen Public Library will offer its six-week, Winter Toddler Story Time session, held Wednesday and Thursday mornings beginning Jan. 11. Parents can choose from bringing their child from 11:10 to 11:40 a.m. Wednesdays or 10:50 to 11:20 a.m. Thursdays. Registration begins Tuesday, Jan. 3.
Toddler Story Time is open to German Township residents between the ages of eighteen months and three years. Once a child turns three, he/she is eligible for Preschool Story Hour. A parent or caregiver must attend with the child. There is no charge for Toddler Story Time.

New year brings new guidelines, representatives

BREMEN — The Town of Bremen prepared for the new year with some new guidelines, appointments, and town representatives.

BHS named Four Star school

PLYMOUTH — Two Marshall County schools were named Four Star Schools for the 2010-11 school year by the Indiana Department of Education. 
Bremen High School and Webster Elementary in Plymouth had been notified of the award several weeks ago, but the public announcement was just released late last week.
Out of 1,780 public schools, 162 earned this distinction. Eleven of 238 non-public schools also received the honor this year. 

County task force honored for efforts

PLYMOUTH — The Marshall County DUI Task Force was honored this month with an award of “Best in the State — DUI Task Force” from Governor Mitch Daniels’ Council on Impaired and Dangerous Driving. The Task Force consists of officers from Marshall County, Bremen, Bourbon, Culver and the Plymouth Police Departments.
Presenting the award to area law enforcement members was Law Enforcement Liaison of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, Phil Oliver, who said, “They have a very successful program in this county.” 

Students awarded for vow to be resistant

December 27, 2011

BREMEN — Fifth grade students from Bremen Elementary and (fifth and sixth graders) St. Paul’s Lutheran schools were awarded Dec. 9 for their commitment to be resistant to drugs, alcohol and violence. During the 22nd annual DARE graduation ceremony, the children were given certificates of commendation, a bumper sticker and a pin for their completing the 12-week course and agreeing to be drug and alcohol free.
