Register now for Kindergarten

BEMS’ Kindergarten Registration for the 2012-2013 school year will be held Thursday, April 26 in the Large Group Room. During registration, prospective student will be given a developmental inventory.
Parents are reminded that they need to bring their child’s official birth certificate for age verification. To be eligible for enrollment, the child must be five (5) on or before Aug. 1, 2012. To learn more, call Bremen Elementary-Middle School at 574-546-3554.

MacBook decision from work session ‘clears the air’

BREMEN — A recent article in The Bremen Enquirer sparked some confusion for parents of Bremen students when it was reported that Apple iPads were being purchased for BHS students in the near future.
High school principal Bruce Jennings and the results of a work session of the school board of trustees helped clear the air — with air — or rather, the Apple MacBook Air, laptops. As part of the One-to-One program through Apple, the corporation will lease 40 MacBook Pros (for the teachers) and approximately 520 MacBook Airs — not iPads — and Jennings explained how that will work.

Police conduct mobilization to enforce seatbelt usage in Indiana

BREMEN — Beginning April 20 the Bremen Police Department will increase seatbelt patrols throughout Marshall County as part of the state’s Rural Demonstration Project (RDP) — in conjunction with the annual effort which aims to increase seatbelt usage by motorists in rural counties with the highest percentage of unrestrained fatalities.

Council divided over responsibility for unpaid bills

BREMEN — The Bremen Town Council agreed to table an issue that members disagreed about involving unpaid utility bills. Town Attorney Anthony Wagner had addressed and investigated the issue to find solutions to the problem of water customers not paying the town and the town having to write off large amounts of the debt owed it.
He proposed that one avenue would be for the landlords to be held responsible for non-payment of their renters.

BHCC senior night set

BREMEN — The Bremen Health Care Center, 316 Woodies Lane, Bremen, will host a Information Night, the topic being REAL Services Senior Solutions, April 17 beginning at 7 p.m. The REAL Services Senior Solutions goal is to assist older adults and their families to find solutions to the many challenges they face by providing ongoing support. Discussion will include assessment and research, counseling and assistance with hard choices, supportive services, visits and medical advocacy with appointments.

Annual Lion King April 13

BREMEN — The Lions won’t be sleeping but instead ruling the night at Bowen Auditorium in Bremen.
“The 6th Annual Lion King Contest is sure to provide great entertainment for those who attend,” said Bremen High School Principal, Bruce Jennings. This year’s event is Fri., April 13 at 7:30 p.m. in The Bowen Auditorium. Tickets are $5 at the door, and all proceeds are given to a local non-profit organization chosen by the contestants. 

Top Ten share their most influential people

BREMEN —  Each year, Bremen High School seniors honor their “most influential staff member of their school career” by writing a letter that is delivered to the selected staff member during the final week of March; however, the top ten seniors (academically) have the opportunity to deliver their letter by reading it aloud publicly and ceremoniously.
This traditional Top Ten Senior recognition was held Monday, March 26 in The Bowen Auditorium along with the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony, and the awarding of Honor pins to students by the Bremen Tri Kappa Sorority.
