County-wide dispatch center in the works

Bremen not taking part
PLYMOUTH — In the near future, several municipalities in the county may share the same dispatch center, located at the Marshall County Jail. Currently, both Plymouth and Bremen operate their own 911 dispatch. The idea of a central dispatch has been long encouraged by Sheriff Tom Chamberlin, who visited local government officials last summer to discuss issues with 911 dispatch funding.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ala. — As a video coordinator at the University of Arkansas, Bremen native Andy Wagner is used to being on the other side of the spotlight. 
But the Razorbacks’ Director of Sports Video will get some much-deserved attention of his own when he returns to Indiana to receive the Southeastern Conference Video Coordinator of the Year Award at the 18th Annual Collegiate Sports Video Conference May 14-17 in Indianapolis.

Little League events more than ‘just another fundraiser’

BREMEN — This weekend many boys and girls will be swinging bats and kicking up dirt at area little league diamonds across the country. Three tournaments worth of games will take place Saturday, May 19 at the Bremen Little League and will raise money for the little league as well as a local scholarship program.

BREMEN — Motorists that refuse to wear their safety belts, should beware.
The Bremen Police Department, with the federal highway safety commission’s funding, in conjunction with the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute and 250 state and local law enforcement agencies will be participating in the national and statewide “Click It or Ticket” campaign. Begin-ning May 18 officers will begin working day and night to identify motorists and occupants who are not properly restrained by a seat belt and/or child restraint device. The enforcement effort will end June 3.

BREMEN — The 4th Annual Sprig O’Mint Amateur Open is scheduled for May 19 and 20.
This 36-hole individual stroke play tournament is open to all male players 18 and older. No handicaps are needed because flights are determined by first round scores.

BREMEN — While many teens across the nation are looking toward the end of their high school careers, their graduation ceremonies and their life beyond being a senior, one Bremen 19-year-old turned the page of that chapter of her life last month.

Blood drives planned in May

Thursday, May 24, from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. the American Red Cross will host a blood drive at Bremen High School in the Lion’s Den, 511 W. Grant St., Bremen. Donors will receive a t-shirt. This blood drive is sponsored by the Key Club.
Wednesday, May 30, from 11:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at St. Isidore Hall in the Hall, 803 W. Bike St. in Bremen there will be a Fallen Officer blood drive.

Food drive Saturday

BREMEN — Tim Kornrumph claims he and childhood pal Dave Slos Jr. have been “tinkering with cars” for as long as he can remember. “I really enjoy it and have been working on cars and trucks pretty much my whole life,” he said. “At least since I was old enough to pick up a wrench.”
He and Slos work full time at Universal Bearings but in their spare time, have gained popularity through word of mouth for fixing people’s problems with their modes of transportation.
