Bourbon honored with Historic Preservation Award

PLYMOUTH — Wythougan Valley Preservation Council held its annual meeting Oct. 7 at Jacoby Church, northeast of Plymouth. The Marshall County Church Orchestra provided a musical program in advance of the annual meeting. The orchestra, led by Don Harness, played a variety of patriotic and religious numbers with some being dedicated to Jacoby Church.

Homecoming royalty

Triton’s homecoming royalty was crowned before the start of last Friday’s football game against New Prairie. From the senior class were King Drew Fleagle (51) and Queen Breanna Lemler. From the sophomore class were Prince Grant Stichter (1) and Princess Becca Kennedy.

Bourbon food pantry

BOURBON — The Country Church, located at the corner of State Road 331 and 9B Road north of Bourbon, is starting a community food pantry. Clients who meet income guidelines may visit the pantry once a month. The pantry is open on Thursday each week, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. For more information, contact Janet at 574-342-4884 or 574-305-1940.

Lemler earns title of Triton Junior Miss

BOURBON – “Game On” was the theme of the 49th Triton Junior Miss Program held Saturday night at the Triton High School auditorium. Crowned 2013 Junior Miss was Breanna Sue Lemler, daughter of Tim and Melinda Lemler.
The evening was well planned and rehearsed and effectively presented by sixth-year Master of Ceremonies Kevin Boyer and 2012 Junior Miss Kendall Mason. Mason, an accomplished dancer, performed both a jazz dance and a lyrical dance during the course of the program.

Performing Arts Department big part of Triton Schools

BOURBON — The Triton High School Performing Arts Department is a comprehensive program that involves students in grades 5-12. The music program offers both instrumental and vocal music performing opportunities.

Students brighten BPL

BOURBON — Once drab and dreary walls that lead down the stairs and to the children’s area and meeting room of the Bourbon Public Library are now full of color and life. Thanks to five Triton High School students who took on an enormous project for the library and devoted their time throughout the school year and even over the summer, kids and adults now enjoy walking downstairs as they pass through a rolling country farm scene.

Lift station project completed

BOURBON — The town of Bourbon has recently completed an infrastructure project that has replaced its main sanitary lift station with a new lift station and screening unit. The new lift station has three new lift pumps, a new pump vault, and a new control valve vault.

Summerfest is Aug. 10-12; schedule complete

BOURBON — Can a small community mount an effective festival? The Triton community — Bourbon, Etna Green, and Tippecanoe — can do it as the Triton Community Summerfest 2012 takes place Aug. 10, 11 and 12 in Bourbon. Area residents and visitors are invited to share a fun experience in small town Midwest America at the Community Park Friday evening, with the official opening of 6:30 p.m. There will be carousel rides open and vendors selling their wares. Stay for the Miss Triton pageant at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $1 or paper products for the food pantry.

Smith is Summerfest grand marshal

BOURBON — “Home town girl loves Bourbon” could be the headline description of Eloise Smith, Grand Marshal of the 2012 Bourbon Summerfest parade scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 11, at 11 a.m. in downtown Bourbon.
Selected by the Summerfest Committee as an example of community loyalty and support, Smith has been teaching at Triton Elementary School for the last 34 years, and retired at the end of this year.
