Bourbon Council discusses church parking

March 27, 2014

BOURBON — A parking issue for Bourbon Church of the Heartland was raised at the Bourbon Town Council meeting Tuesday evening, March 12.
Pastor Ted Westafer appeared before Council to note that Sunday morning parking in front of the 106 N. Main St. church was preventing cars from dropping off worshippers safely, especially when snow is present. He requested that two parking spaces in front of the church be designated “no parking” from 9:30-11:15 a.m. Sunday only.

‘One child, one hour, and one school’

March 16, 2014

BOURBON — “Hope secretly feeds and strengthens promise,” wrote Sri Chinmoy in a Vatican prayer in 2003. It is impossible to know what is in a child’s mind as she eagerly anticipates the upcoming meeting with her mentor. Mentors, teachers, and parents have some inkling, however, as the child’s attitude, behavior, and performance in school improve dramatically. Such is the overall experience at Triton Elementary School as it begins a mentoring program devised by Kids Hope USA.

February 20, 2014

BOURBON — Good deeds frequently go unnoticed. One such deed, however, was recognized by the Bourbon Town Council at its regular meeting Tuesday evening. It was reported that resident Ben Middaugh and his son McLain had been seen shoveling around fire hydrants in Bourbon following the recent heavy snows. This clearing of the hydrants is a safety issue since fire personnel can waste considerable time in an emergency trying to locate their hose hookups.
