Triton holds Hall of Fame weekend

BOURBON — The Triton Athletic Hall of Fame inducted another class on Saturday at the third annual Hall of Fame induction banquet. The Hall of Fame recognized two contributors, one coach and four student athletes.
Rounding out this year’s class were contributors William Moriarty and the late Kenneth Keller, coach Mark Heeter, and athletes Julie Lozier, Jack Carpenter, Curt Kreft and James Erwin.

Winter homecoming festivities for Triton Jr./Sr. High School will take place Friday, Jan. 11 in Bourbon. The crowning event will occur between the varsity girls and boys basketball games, approximately 7 p.m. The winter homecoming king and queen will be chosen from representatives of nine different clubs and groups within the high school.

Project makes Christmas a reality

BOURBON — So you thought you couldn’t afford Christmas? Didn’t know how you were going to provide presents for your children? (Drum roll……) It’s the Triton Christmas Project to the rescue. For the second year, this extension of the Marshall County Neighborhood Center’s Christmas Coalition came to fruition.

Free game for kids addresses bullying

BOURBON — Charlie Jackson of Bourbon has created a computer game to help kids learn the consequences of bullying.
Jackson, owner of Cataclysmic Games, said that he’s been making games “on and off” for about seven years. The decision to make a game for kids happened when his artist created a character that he described as “silly and cute.”
That character eventually became “Rubberkid,” a colorful gumdrop-shaped person dedicated to protecting other kids from insults hurled at them by bullies.

Triton High School Band holds awards dinner

BOURBON — “Small can be mighty” as proven by the Triton High School marching band in its fall season.
In total, 145 band members and parents gathered last Thursday night at the Back Forty entertainment venue in Bourbon for its awards dinner.
Peter Foster, junior/senior high school music teacher and band director, is in his seventh year at the school. “Seven years ago, the marching band did little marching,” he said. “They basically stood in the middle of the football field and played a couple of songs,” he continued.

Bourbon Police issues 31 citations during November Safe Family Travel enforcement effort

BOURBON — Officials from the Bourbon Police Department recently announced that 31 citations were issued in the Bourbon area during the 2012 Safe Family Travel, Blitz 73. From Nov. 16 – Dec. 2, the Bourbon Police Department joined more than 250 law enforcement agencies across the state to conduct high-visibility impaired driving and seatbelt patrols — consisting of sobriety checkpoints, and saturation patrols. The goal of the effort was to reduce the number of motorists killed or injured on Indiana roadways during the Thanksgiving holiday season.

Purdue Extension hosts annual meeting

PLYMOUTH — Nov. 13 the Marshall County Purdue Extension Board held its annual meeting to highlight the successful programming and individuals involved in Marshall County Extension’s work.
The event was held at Pretty Lake Church and attended by 70 individuals, including speaker of the evening, Dr. Marcos Fernandez. He gave an extremely enlightening and educational presentation on the importance of agriculture and the future of individuals pursuing degrees in agricultural education.

Carpenter inks with Ball State golf

BOURBON — A year ago in the spring of 2011, then-Triton sophomore Quentyn Carpenter had a decision to make: Continue playing with the Trojans’ successful basketball team or get serious about his first love and quit the team to pursue golf full time.
It wasn’t an easy choice but Carpenter stood firm, and he was given a measure of vindication when he signed on with the Ball State’s men’s golf team recently.

Triton holds tech open house

BOURBON — “Slow and steady wins the race” might describe Triton School Corporation’s deliberate entry into contemporary instructional technology. Plans and progress were shared at a recent Tech Open House held at both the elementary and Jr./Sr. high school.
