2 school board seats up for election; forum on tap

BOURBON — Triton School Corporation will have two school board seats up for election Nov. 6, 2012 for the Bourbon Township and the At-Large districts. Candidates must reside within the same district they wish to represent and must have at least 10 signatures of registered voters. At-Large candidates may reside anywhere within the corporation. All nomination petitions must be filed in Marshall County. Any signatures received from Etna Township patrons must be taken to Kosciusko County to be verified, and then the petition must be taken to Marshall County to be filed.

BHSAA holds 117th meeting

July 4, 2012

BOURBON — The 117th meeting of the Bourbon High School Alumni Association was held in the Matchett Senior Center Saturday May 19. Classes graduating in the years ending 2 and 7 were the honored classes. There were 171 alumni and guests present. Greeters for the evening were from the 50-year class of 1962 and included Don Hall, and Chet and Jane Hall. The hostess was Connie Neidig Kuntz class of 1962, and the prayer was by Richard Bellman, also class of 1962.
Chet Hall led the pledge to the flag, and also honored all the veterans from each war.

Triton school offices closed in July; registration schedule announced

BOURBON — The offices of Triton Elementary and Triton Jr./Sr. High Schools will be closed during the month of July for summer cleaning and maintenance. The offices will reopen Monday, July 30.
Elementary office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jr./Sr. High School office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. New students entering Triton Jr./Sr. High School should call 574-342-6505 to make an appointment to register. Textbooks are to be paid in full or a payment schedule must be established on these dates for both buildings.

Town employees recognized

BOURBON — Kudos were presented and gratefully received at the regular meeting of the Bourbon Town Council last Tuesday. With the completion of the Bourbon Storm Water Improvements Project, the contractor, Selge Construction Company, Inc., had only praise for town employees.
“It has been a great experience working with Mr. Mike Shoda of the Municipal Water and Wastewater Department…,” said President Marv Selge in a letter.
Also complimented were Roger Terry of the Municipal Street Department and Kimberly Berger, clerk treasurer, and their staff.

Triton cuts ribbon on Ernie Watkins Pavilion

BOURBON — If fame is defined as “how your luster lasts over the decades,” then 90-year-old Ernie Watkins is as bright and shining as the sun. The well-known Bourbon area resident was honored June 11 as the brand new Triton Jr./Sr. High School pavilion was named in his honor.

Triton class of ’12 leaves legacy of learning

BOURBON — “Never forget — you are educating students,” a college professor told Triton School Superintendent Carl Hilling. “I have always made that my priority,” said Hilling, as he praised Triton’s 2012 graduating class Sunday at the high school gymnasium.
According to Hilling, this year, the high school:
• Was recognized nationally in “U.S. News and World Report” for preparing students for college and other career avenues; and

Nordmann, Fisher tops in THS class of ’12

BOURBON — Nicholas Nordmann has been named the valedictorian for the class of 2012 at Triton Jr.-Sr. High School, with Tayler Fisher recognized as salutatorian.
Nordmann achieved the All-A Honor Roll each grading period this year, as well as being selected as this year’s top student in the mathematics and science departments. He was presented an engraved pocket watch at the academic awards banquet for reaching the top level of academic points at Triton.

Burroughs is new superintendent for Triton schools

BOURBON —At Triton’s monthly school board meeting Monday, the red carpet of recognition and welcome was rolled out. During the meeting, two community girls were honored for a heroic act, Triton’s winning Destination Imagination Team was congratulated, and Donna Burroughs was confirmed in her position as new school superintendent.

BOURBON — A nasty morning did not dampen bright spirits last Saturday as volunteers gathered for the first Bourbon town clean-up/fix-up.
The well-organized event was initiated by the town council to continue the image of an effectively-run small town in Midwest America.
