Family Game Night in Bourbon

April 18, 2011

BOURBON — It was all fun and games Thursday, (April 7), at the second annual Family Game Night in Bourbon. It was held in the multi-purpose room at Triton Elementary School from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The night was part of a Title 1 program at the school used to help get parents involved in education.
“I want our school to be a lighthouse for the community, to provide a place for them to go and enjoy time together away from the TV,” said Jeremy Riffle, principal at the elementary, who also attended with his two sons and played games.

On the first Saturday in April, the Triton Jr.-Sr. High School FFA held its annual consignment auction. In previous years, the Triton FFA had joined other chapters around the county. Two years ago, when other groups made a decision to try a toy auction instead, Triton FFA, under the direction Mike Emenaker, chose to continue with the consignment plan.

With almost 2,200 submissions from students in seventh through twelfth grades in the regional level — which includes Northwest Indiana and Southwest Michigan schools — competition was fierce. Professional artists made up the jury that selected winning works in three categories, Gold keys, Silver keys and honorable mentions.

LAFAYETTE — Triton’s boys basketball team emerged from semistate action bloodied, battered and bruised, but most important, unbowed and unbeaten.

Department head attendance not mandatory

March 22, 2011

BOURBON — It was determined at the March meeting of the Bourbon Town Council that town department heads’ attendance to the monthly meetings is not mandatory.
The fact was decided upon after town employees asked for reimbursement for attending the meetings — meetings that they must give a departmental report during. Bourbon Town Council President Les McFarland and member Larry Wattenbarger concluded that they did not feel the employees should be compensated for attending as — as Wattenbarger put it — “it was part of the job.”
