Carpenter, Trojans win Marshall Co. Meet

April 29, 2013

CULVER — Whatever a player’s score on the front side at Mystic, he can usually count on adding a few stokes on the course’s hilly back nine. Triton’s Quentyn Carpenter shaved one.
Carpenter entered the turn trailing fellow top flighter Trent Elliott of Culver Community as well as teammate Ryan Rapp and Cam Gurtner of LaVille by a stroke, but he birdied the 12th and 13th to move into the lead, then followed a bogey on the 15th with par golf over the final three holes to reclaim the individual Marshall County Golf Championship with an even-par 71 Saturday.

NorthWood takes big NLC win over Pilgrims

April 27, 2013

PLYMOUTH — Analyzing the Plymouth Pilgrims’ Friday game with NorthWood, you could say the weather was beautiful at Bill Nixon Field.
It was hard to find much else positive as Plymouth had one of those games teams have in a long baseball season, dropping a 15-0 decision in five innings. The Pilgrims surrendered a seven spot to the Panthers — highlighted by a three-run homer by NorthWood’s Blake Cleveland — digging a hole it was hard to dig out of.

Brown scores walk-off as Plymouth tops NorthWood, 4-3

April 27, 2013

PLYMOUTH — Freshman Bre Martin drove in Bailey Brown on an 0-2 count for the game-winning run, and Plymouth’s softball team clinched a 4-3 Northern Lakes Conference victory over visiting NorthWood Friday night.
It was the second walk-off NLC win of the week for the Lady Pilgrims, who
“It was really exciting for our team to have a second walk-off victory in one week’s time, and especially for Bre to come through. It was a great play for a freshman able to execute and support her team that way,” said Plymouth softball coach Haley Church.
“It was exciting, a great Friday night.”

Senior forward Breanna Lemler, junior guard Taylor Hatfield and sophomore guard Kylie Mason were all named for the NSC-undefeated repeat conference champion Lady Trojans, while senior guard Clay Yeo, senior post Seth Glingle and junior forward Tanner Shepherd were chosen for the Trojans, who tied for league championship honors with New Prairie.

Lady Pilgrims fall in five versus No. 1-ranked Rochester

April 26, 2013

PLYMOUTH — The Lady Pilgrims knew Thursday’s make-up game with unbeaten Class 2A, No. 1 Rochester was going to be a challenge. The Zebras lived up to their reputation.
Unfortunately for Plymouth, the very issue the Pilgrims have been struggling with lately — namely, falling behind by large deficits in the early innings — is the very strength that has pushed Rochester out to a 10-0 start. The Zebras collected 11 hits over the first three frames, quickly putting the game out of reach en route to a five-inning, 15-2 win at Centennial Park.
