Plymouth crashes boards in NLC win over Wawasee

January 24, 2011

PLYMOUTH — Despite being down 6-foot-1 senior Marisa Green, Plymouth outrebounded Wawasee 35-18 — including an 11-2 advantage off the offensive glass —to beat their Northern Lakes Conference foe 45-36 at The Rock Saturday night.
With Green sidelined with an ACL tear — the second of her four-year career — Amber Redinger and Andria Shook stepped up in the front court while the rest of the team chipped in to help the Lady Pilgrims win the battle of the boards and their second straight NLC game.

Culver nips John Glenn, 51-50

January 22, 2011

LAKEVILLE — It’s not always the big-name players who make the big-time plays. Sometimes it’s the quiet role player who steps up and seizes the marquee moment.
On Friday, that player was Scotty Brown.

Carpenter, Trojans hammer out win over LaVille, 59-44

January 22, 2011

LAKEVILLE — With the game’s first basket Friday in the Bi-County Boys Basketball Tournament semifinal round, Triton’s Griffyn Carpenter broke his school’s career scoring record.
And he never really stopped scoring the entire night.
The 6-foot-1 senior powered his way to a game-high 29 points and led the Class A No. 3 Trojans to a 59-44 win over host LaVille at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium.

McBee scores 21 as Lady Dragons bow out to Culver

January 21, 2011

LAKEVILLE — Culver Community’s Patrice McBee dug deep into her bag of offensive tricks Thursday night in the Bi-County Girls Basketball Tournament semifinals.
With conventional low-post work, a short jumper, a dribble drive, a roll to the bucket, and a left-handed drive and right-handed finish on the baseline, the 6-foot-3 senior showcased her offensive versatility with a game-high 21 points to lead the Cavs to a 59-34 win over Argos.

Bobcats start fast in win over Triton

January 21, 2011

LAKEVILLE — A lot can change in nine weeks.
When Oregon-Davis first took the floor at Triton in early November, the Lady Bobcats were essentially an eighth-grade team with virtually no returners from last year’s Sectional 50 championship campaign, and the Trojans handed them their first loss in two years.
The names and the faces were the same, but there were few other resemblances between the Class A, No. 4 Bobcats that hit the hardwood in that game and the one that played Triton Thursday.

Lancers and Lady Cats survive round 1

January 19, 2011

LAKEVILLE — Fourpeat defending girls champion Oregon-Davis scuffled its way to a double-digit victory, while OD shooter Zach Richie was sidelined with the flu as the LaVille Lancers beat their guests by a lopsided 80-42 margin, and the Lady Bobcats survived 67-56 in first-round TCU Bi-County Basketball Tournament action Tuesday at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium.
Class A, No. 4 Lady Bobcats 67, Lady Lancers 56
Class A No. 4 Oregon-Davis got out-boarded by 15 and clanked its way to a 14-of-31 disaster from the charity stripe...and still won by double figures.
