Uceny on the move after winning national championship

LAUSANNE, Switzerland — Morgan Uceny is a woman on the move.
Today, she’s in Lausanne, Switzerland, getting ready to run in a big track meet Thursday. It’s a Diamond League meet, where a professional runner — such as Uceny — could potentially earn a lot of money.

Post 27 sweeps Jay Randolph in doubleheader

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth Post 27 ran its win streak to three straight games with a doubleheader sweep of Jay Randolph Post 507 Sunday, beating the visitors 3-0 in the opener and 14-2 in a five-inning nightcap at Bill Nixon Field.
James Hackworth pitched a complete game shutout in game one, striking out 15 with just one walk while scattering three hits, while Post 27 broke through with a run in the third and added two more in the bottom of the fourth for the win.

Renz, Kinney earn trio of IHSTeCA honors

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth No. 2 doubles player Lindsay Renz and No. 1 singles player Erin Kinney each earned a trio of post-season honors, while several other area players were also singled out for distinctions by the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association (IHSTeCA).
Renz and Amy Siefer of Bremen were both named Academic All State for the 2011 season, while Kinney and teammate Chelsea Thoden were named Honorable Mention Academic All State along with Bremen’s Kelsey Stichter.

Post 27 beats Logan, snaps skid

PLYMOUTH — After an 0-for-4 start at the plate, Evan Jurjevic was due.
The big Post 27 five hole hitter from LaPorte got his hit when it counted with a two-RBI line single into left that scored the eventual game-winner as Jake Eaton earned the save in the ninth of an 11-10 comeback win over visiting Logansport Post 60/ 418 at Bill Nixon Field Thursday.

Swan Lake hosts Golf Channel Am Tour Saturday

PLYMOUTH — The Golf Channel Am Tour is coming to Swan Lake this weekend.
The Golf Channel Am Tour (GCAT), the largest amateur golf tour in North America, is to be returning to the Swan Lake Golf Resort after a year hiatus for the Heartland Open on Saturday and Sunday. The 36-hole tournament, featuring over 180 players from across Indiana and North America, will compete for the opportunity to qualify for the 2011 Golf Channel Am Tour National Championships in September.

Howe, Harvey go from rivals to roommates

INDIANAPOLIS — From rivals on the wrestling mat to allies on the gridiron, Culver's Jeremiah Harvey and Plymouth's Damon Howe have come full circle.
The Marshall County heavyweights, who clashed several times in last winter's IHSAA State Wrestling Tournament culminating in a championship showdown under the spotlight at Conseco Fieldhouse in February, have both been selected to man the offensive line for the North at the 2011 Grange Insurance/IFCA North-South All-Star Game next month.

Hoagland and Reehling win Farm Bureau Classic

KOONTZ LAKE — Jason Reehling of Fairmont gave his father-in-law, David Hoagland of Rochester a great Father’s Day gift of a 5.69 pound largemouth that propelled them to victory at the Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance Classic at Koontz Lake.
This was their first win in the MARCO Bass Masters Tournament Series. They had a five fish limit that weighed 13.20 pounds. It was also their second Travel Tender Bait and Tackle Big Bass Award of the Year. The victory was worth $650, and they were awarded another $130 for big bass.

Lindsey, Plothow, Hayden making good on promises

PLYMOUTH — For a third year a group of high school friends will make good on a promise.
Mark Lindsey and Tony Plothow made a promise to good friend Craig Woolfington as he struggled with cancer that his daughter Kate would not have to worry about her college education. The two joined forces with Ted Hayden and for the third straight year the trio will host the Craig Woolfington Memorial Golf Outing to make good on that promise.

Elliott, Kolter tops in boys 14-15 division at Mystic

CULVER — Culver’s Trent Elliott parred number 8 in a playoff at Mystic Hills Golf Club to beat Plymouth’s Nate Kolter after the two tied with 80s in Marshall County Junior Tour action Tuesday in Culver. 
Elliott’s tee shot stopped 4 feet above the hole, and he two-putted the par 3 hole to seal the victory in the boys 14-15 division. Kolter’s drive found a front sand trap causing him to bogey, meanwhile. 
Also at Tuesday’s competition, Plymouth’s John Schenk won the boys 10-11 division, while Ethan St. Michael’s Ethan Oliver won the boys 8-9 competition.

Oregon-Davis names Crown Point’s Crawford as new boys basketball coach

June 22, 2011

HAMLET — Oregon-Davis High School announced the hiring of Matt Crawford as Physical Education Teacher and Head Boys Basketball Coach of the Bobcats on Tuesday.
Crawford is a graduate of Northridge High School and attended Goshen College where he played basketball for four years. As an assistant at Brownsburg, he was part of a program that won the state championship in the 2007-2008 season. Crawford has been an assistant boys basketball coach at Crown Point the past two seasons.
