The Lady Falcons moved to 10-9 on the season with the split. Medalist honors for the evening belonged to Lauren Daurety and Katelyn Foust with 47s for the Zebras.

Bremen tennis’ Wagner reaches coaching milestone

September 7, 2011

BREMEN — Mark Wagner started playing tennis almost by accident as a sophomore in high school.
Nearly 45 years later, the Bremen Assistant Tennis Coach notched his 300th win as the Lions beat Rochester in the first match of their home tourney Saturday.
“It was a big accomplishment because it not only shows his coaching ability but longevity as well,” said Bremen Head Tennis Coach Andrew Rohde.
While Rohde and his players knew it was coming, Wagner was blindsided by the milestone.

Rockies run wild at Warsaw

September 3, 2011

WARSAW — The true test of any young football team is how they start on the road.
Indeed, Plymouth had chances to go up early against both Bremen and Rochester in Weeks 1 and 2 but wasn’t quite able to get off to the start it hoped for.
The Rockies had no such trouble Friday as they jumped off to an 8-0 start barely three minutes in on their way to a 22-7 first half lead at Warsaw, a fast start they rode to an eventual 29-13 Northern Lakes Conference-opening win.

Lions erupt with 48 unanswered in NSC opener

September 3, 2011

BREMEN — Nate Leeper managed to keep things in good working order Friday night.
The senior quarterback passed for two touchdowns and ran for two more, helping No. 8 (Class 2-A) Bremen roll to a 55-13 victory over New Prairie in Northern State Conference football action at Don Bunge Field.
Leeper’s 6-yard strike to Ethan Pike late in the first period tied the game at 13-13 and started the Lions (3-0, 1-0 NSC) on their way to 48 unanswered points.
The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Leeper completed 8-of-13 passes for 160 yards and rushed the ball five times for 15 yards.

Cavs drop Triton in NSC opener

September 3, 2011

CULVER — Culver Community senior Sam Hissong hauled in two of junior quarterback Collin Stevens’ four touchdown tosses Friday against Triton.
Considering the pads-popping downfield block he threw to free junior running back Matt Hurford for the Cavs’ first touchdown reception, Hissong’s own catches seemed like a fitting reward in Culver’s 33-3 Northern State Conference-opening football win at steamy Cavalier Field.
