NSC football says goodbye tonight

October 17, 2014

Today marks the end of the high school football regular season and it also marks the end of the Northern State Conference in football, a conference that’s more than half a century old.
The eight-team NSC will dissolve as four teams - New Prairie, Glenn, Bremen and  Jimtown - will join the Northern Indiana Conference and begin NIC play in the 2015-16 school year.

Plymouth looks to avoid letdown vs NorthWood

October 16, 2014

PLYMOUTH — Officially NLC champs Plymouth’s Rockies have ample excuse to have a slight letdown against NorthWood in the season finale at Plymouth.
However Plymouth has had ample excuses for a post big game letdown on several occasions this season and the opposite has been the case.
“I think it shows the character of our kids particularly the senior class,” said Plymouth Head Coach John Barron. “They are tremendous leaders. They’ve taken the entire team on their backs and they love to work. I think it all starts in practice. They practice hard and they hold each other accountable.”

Panthers top Rockies for title

October 13, 2014

PLYMOUTH — After the late regular-season matchup between NLC rivals Plymouth and NorthWood ended in a scoreless tie, Saturday’s Plymouth Soccer Sectional championship game promised to be a dramatic one.
The title match delivered as NorthWood scored the game’s only goal on a controversial penalty kick in the 59th minute, then held on for the narrowest of 1-0 wins over the host Rockies at Kindt Soccerplex.

CULVER — With Warsaw in a league of its own, Saturday’s Culver Academies Cross Country Sectional was essentially a race for second place.
The Tigers easily repeated as champions in both the girls and boys races, while the host Eagles took second in the team standings, and Plymouth’s girls also qualified for regional with a third-place result.
The Lady Eagles were led by Stephanie Ma’s 10th-place finish, while Olivia Martinez claimed 11th, Annie Shea was 14th, Mary Terhune was 16th, and Sara Brismar finished in 19th for host CGA.

Argos edges Lady Lancers in shootout at LaVille Sectional

October 10, 2014

LAKEVILLE — Last year’s girls sectional final saw Argos stun LaVille for three goals in the first six minutes and lead 5-1 before a pair of late Lancer goals narrowed the margin. This year’s semifinal match-up looked to turn the tables as the Lancers struck in the fourth minute for an early lead. The similarity ended there, however, with the Dragons eventually winning in a penalty kick shoot-out.

Plymouth, NorthWood bow out at Warsaw Sectional
Culver and Plymouth played a back and forth match with both having opportunities on goal, but Culver Academy’s Jordan Blackburne was the only player on the field to hit the net, lifting the Eagles to a 1-0 win.
Plymouth countered with a goal that was called back by the center ref — allegedly there was a hand ball. Katie Berg had one save and one allowed.
