May 13, 2013

BREMEN — With four championship matches left to wrap at the Northern State Conference Tournament, it looks like Bremen’s girls tennis team has an outright NSC title in the bag.
The Lady Lions have yet to finish up on the three singles courts and at 2 doubles after earning championship berths on all courts over the weekend.

Pilgrims fall to Clay in wild game at the Cove

May 13, 2013

SOUTH BEND — Add a non-conference Saturday after a long week of baseball to the venue of Coveleski Stadium and opponent South Bend Clay (11-6) and you have a roller coaster ride of a morning that ended with Plymouth falling to Clay by a 12-6 final.
“We didn’t take any steps back today,” said Plymouth coach Ryan Wolfe. “We’re right where we want to be and moving forward, and It was just one of those days where the wheels fell off. They fell off, and we couldn’t get back on the wagon.”

German and Shook win NLC doubles title
Plymouth’s No. 1 doubles team of Marissa German and Andria Shook won the Northern Lakes Conference championship, and the Lady Pilgrims finished third behind meet and overall league champ Northridge and runner-up Goshen at the NLC Tournament at home Saturday morning.
German and Shook avenged a three-set loss to Northridge’s Courtney Clark and Olivia Erekson in round robin play back on May 2 with a very convincing 6-2, 6-1 win over their rivals Saturday to win the 1 doubles title on their home court in Centennial Park.

Plymouth at 3 straight with Wawasee win

May 11, 2013

SYRACUSE — Plymouth’s Pilgrims made it three in a row — this time a come from behind NLC win on the road at Wawasee (3-14) by an 11-6 final.
Falling behind early, the Pilgrims rallied late and a big three-run sixth — spurred by RBIs from Jacob Frantz, Justin Drudge and Blake Milliser — pushed them ahead to stay. A four-run seventh put the exclamation point on the win.
“We got down 6-2 in the fourth. We battled. I thought we had some great at-bats where we battled early, were able to put some runs on,” said Plymouth head coach Ryan Wolfe. “I knew one run wasn’t going to be enough there.”

Bennitt tosses 1-hitter as Bremen blanks LaVille, 11-0

May 11, 2013

LAKEVILLE — On a cold night in Lakeville, the Lancers’ bats matched the weather as they were only able to come away with one hit off Bremen’s Jacob Bennitt, losing 11-0.
Bennitt finished with nine strikeouts without walking a single batter in the shutout. The Bremen Lions came to play at the plate as well, starting the game with five runs in the first inning and cycling through the entire order.

Lady Pilgrims go 2-2 as 2nd round of NLCs wraps

May 11, 2013

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth’s girls tennis team started the Northern Lakes Conference Tournament with hopes of overtaking Northridge or at least Goshen after a third-place finish behind the two in round robin play. With two rounds of the NLC tourney now complete, the Lady Pilgrims’ chances of doing so are all but defunct.
Plymouth went 2-2 on a cold Friday evening in Centennial Park following a 6-4 start over Wednesday’s opening round and Thursday’s abbreviated round.
