Concord trips up Lady Lancers

November 14, 2011

LAKEVILLE — LaVille’s free-throw shooting and turnover numbers jump off the stat sheet.
Ten of 20 from the charity stripe — 5 of 13 in the second half and 3 of 9 in the fourth quarter — and 23 turnovers.
Combined, those two sore spots helped Concord’s girls basketball team trip up the Lancers 46-40 at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium Saturday.

Oregon-Davis splits opening games at Mishawaka Classic

November 14, 2011

MISHAWAKA – The 2011-2012 version of the Oregon-Davis girls basketball team is loaded with good, young talent, but light on varsity experience.
By starting the season off with a doubleheader Saturday, the Lady Bobcats gained some valuable experience, splitting two games against Class 4A schools in the Mishawaka Classic.
After easily dispatching Elkhart Central in the morning contest, 64-32, the Lady Bobcats narrowly lost to the hosts, 49-42, in the championship game. Although it was not the outcome O-D wanted, the fourth-ranked team in Class A made an impression.

VALPARAISO — Ethan Pike may never have played high school football before this year, but the junior wide receiver played like a seasoned vet Friday night.
Pike finished with two touchdown receptions totaling 28 yards in Bremen’s regional battle of unbeatens versus Wheeler, his first a 10-yarder that put the Lions on the board at the 3:31 mark of the first quarter and his second a heady 18-yarder off a tip from Bearcats defensive back Derek Hartwig with just 3.4 seconds remaining in the first half to give Bremen its final lead of the night.

VanDerWeele and Argos rally past John Glenn, 41-39

November 11, 2011

WALKERTON — Argos’ girls basketball team needed something, anything, to get on track offensively in the fourth quarter Thursday at John Glenn.
Karlee VanDerWeele delivered.
The Argos junior forward drained a crucial 3-pointer with 5:21 left in the game to accelerate a game-changing 11-0 run as the Dragons withstood a 22-point outburst from Glenn freshman Kyler Columbia, and clawed out a 41-39 come-from-behind season-opening win at The Aerie.
