New sexual abuse lawsuit filed against USA Swimming and Indiana Swimming

INDIANAPOLIS — A lawsuit has been filed against USA Swimming, Indiana Swimming and the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township (Marion County, Indiana Superior Court) for their failure to take action on complaints made about their certified swim coach, Christopher Wheat, and for sexual abuse and assault against a then 14-year old female swimmer that resulted from that inaction.

Nine Culver Academies student-athletes commit to D1 programs

CULVER — Nine Culver Academies students signed National Letters of Intent or formally announced commitments to NCAA D1 colleges on Wednesday.
Among them was Kyle Trolley, of Petersborough, Ont., who will play lacrosse at the University of Notre Dame. Trolley is a two time all-state player and was the offensive player of the state championship game in 2010.

LaVille earns six All-NSC picks ahead of conference champion Bremen’s five

Northern State Conference boys soccer champion Bremen had five players named to the all-conference team, while second-place LaVille finished with a league-high six selections.
Bremen finished 5-0-1 in conference play, while LaVille was 4-1-1.
Josh Brenneman, Ricardo Reynoso, Daniel Reynoso, Mason Hattabaugh and Jacob Box were selected for the Lions, while Jordyn Williams, Craig Romano, Travis Holzwart, Juan Chavez, Michael Wireman and goalie Joey Vest were named for the Lancers.

Plymouth’s Starr garners Sleep Inn All-Classic honors

HAMMOND — Plymouth grad Alex Starr and Purdue University Calumet teammate Kami Graber were rewarded for their impressive performances in the Sleep Inn Tip-Off Classic last week, as each selected to the All-Classic team.
Starr averaged 22.5 points per game in the classic, including Friday’s game-high 25 points in the Black and Gold’s rout of Midway. She finished the weekend with six trifectas, including a clutch trey in the final minute of regulation to help force overtime against No. 4 Shawnee State.

Lady Lancers top All-NSC soccer charts

LAKEVILLE — The Northern State Conference recently released its all-conference picks for the 2011 girls soccer season.
LaVille, which won the team title with a perfect 6-0 NSC record, received five picks in Jesse Feitz, Nina Zeiger, Danielle Romano, Breanna DeJarnett and goalie Abby McBride.
Bremen finished 3-3 in NSC play and was awarded four picks in Heather Martin, Jenna Pfeiffer, Sara Krieger and Jessica Tomlinson.

Wabash wins NCAC, earns NCAA tourney berth
Plymouth alum Austin Hodges and North Judson grad C.J. Gum led the Wabash defense a second straight game as the Little Giants won the North Coast Athletic Conference with a 28-17 victory over Wittenberg Saturday.
Hodges and Gum each finished with seven tackles.

Men’s college basketball
Ball State wins exhibition
Randy Davis finished with five points, three assists and two blocks as Ball State posted a 72-47 exhibition victory over Taylor at home at Worthen Arena in Muncie Monday.
