Bremen’s Huff signs with Ancilla

March 21, 2013

BREMEN — It’s a win-win.
The Chargers will gain a local talent, and Andrew Huff will continue his soccer career close to home as the Bremen senior signed on with Ancilla College recently.
“I really appreciate the opportunity Coach (Darren) Gallagher has given me, and being able to play college soccer at Ancilla means so much since I can continue to play close to home,” said Huff.

Trojans find identity on the road to state finals

March 20, 2013

BOURBON — As the 2012-13 season opened, Triton found itself struggling to find a sense of identity.
It made for an up-and-down front end to the year as the Trojans dropped three of their first five games on their way to an 8-5 start, not bad by many teams’ standards, but still not nearly up to the level of expectations for a program that has become accustomed to championships and high rankings in the weekly AP polls.
Then it hit head coach Jason Groves — this year’s squad would make a name for itself on the defensive end.

Plymouth native Master enters Basketball Hall of Fame this week

March 20, 2013

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — “I’ve had a lot of really magical moments in my life, but I really have to say that my best times playing basketball were the ones I had growing up in Plymouth.”
Many will remember Jim Master and some of the magical moments he had culminating in his selection as Indiana’s Mr. Basketball in 1980, and later his time as one of the top players on the University of Kentucky’s basketball teams in the early 80’s. His life in basketball will be rewarded this week as he becomes a member of this year’s class in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.

Trojans take semistate

March 18, 2013

LAFAYETTE — Triton’s defense entered crazy territory Saturday.
As in limiting Lafayette Central Catholic to a woeful 22 percent — 11 of 50 — from the field crazy. As in holding the Class A No. 6 Knights to more than 26 points shy of their season offensive average crazy. As in leaving the uptempo Knights playing a slower-paced half-court game and talking to themselves crazy.

After long wait, Ancilla softball ready to start season

March 18, 2013

DONALDSON — The beginning of the season has been a long waiting game for the 2013 version of Ancilla College softball.
The Lady Chargers have lost 10 different game dates to snow and cold weather to begin the season, and now the wait continues as their spring trip is getting closer each day.
“It’s been a tough early spring, weather-wise,” said Ancilla coach Scott Reese. “We try to get a tough non-conference schedule completed at home before going down south, but this year hasn’t cooperated with us.”
