Lady Cavs win 2nd straight versus North Judson, 63-45

CULVER — The Lady Cavaliers overcame a slow start to defeat the North Judson Lady Jays at home Thursday night, 63-45.
Culver (6-6) scored just six points in the first quarter, while the visiting Lady Jays (7-4) put up 15, but the second quarter heated up quickly.

Pilgrims defend new ranking with rout of Whitko

PLYMOUTH — The Pilgrims defended their brand-new Class 3A No. 8 ranking in convincing fashion against Whitko Wednesday.
Fresh from earning its first slot in the AP polls in three seasons, Plymouth used team basketball and a 24-9 second quarter to coast to a comfortable 69-44 win over the visiting Wildcats at The Rock. The Pilgrims finished with 18 assists compared to just two by Whitko, and four players scored in double figures to help Plymouth stay unbeaten while handing the Wildcats their third straight loss.

Glenn wins third straight
Three Falcons scored in double digits, and John Glenn won its third straight with a 72-42 defeat of host Argos Wednesday.
Josh Anderson put up a game-high 19 to pace Glenn, while Tyler Prentkowski scored 17, and Austen Hayes put up 12 in the win, which brought the Falcons to an even 4-4 on the season.
Argos was led by Cain Thorn’s 17 in the loss, which drops the team to 1-5.
Glenn will face Triton at home Jan. 7 after the holiday layover, while Argos hosts the four-team Winter Classic beginning with a game versus West Central Dec. 27.

CULVER — North Judson head coach Phil Shabi thinks John Eckert has more to give.
Given the 6-7 senior forward’s dominant performance at Culver Tuesday, that’s really saying something.
Eckert scored from the inside, on the fast break and from the perimeter to put up a game-high 26 points while ripping down a game co-leading 11 rebounds, powering the undefeated Class 2A No. 6 Bluejays to a 74-47 win over Class A No. 8 Culver on the road at John R. Nelson Gymnasium.

Argos breaks skid
Argos' girls snapped a two-game skid with a 42-16 home win over Caston Tuesday.
Jami Patterson finished with a game-high 12 points, and Libby Moyer chipped in 10 in the winning effort.
Caston was led by Adrienne Frye's and Jessica Showley's five points each.
The Lady Dragons improve to 7-3 and will host the Winter Classic Dec. 27 and 29.

Randy Davis is Bob Cousy Award candidate for 2nd straight year

MUNCIE — For the second year in a row, Ball State senior point guard Randy Davis has been named one of 59 candidates for the 2012 Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass. announced Monday. The annual honor, named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic Bob Cousy, recognizes the top point guards in college basketball.

Triton’s Yeo an IBCA/ Pacers-Fever Player of the Week

BOURBON — Triton junior guard Clay Yeo has been named one of three boys honored as an Indiana Basketball Coaches Association/Pacers-Fever Player of the Week.
Yeo is joined by two other Class A boys players in Faith Christian senior Stephen Toyra and Edinburgh senior Jordan Burton along with three girls nominees in Akilah Sims of Fort Wayne Snider, Rachael Gregory of Indianapolis North Central and Amanda Moore of Seymour as honorees in the awards program sponsored by the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever.
All were cited for performances from Dec. 12 through Dec. 17.

TCU Athlete of the Week John Ruff

Plymouth’s John Ruff put up 12 points — including the game-winner — to go with game-highs of six rebounds, five assists and five steals as Plymouth eked out a 53-52 Northern Lakes Conference win at NorthWood Friday.
