Falcons repeat at Lancer Relays

May 3, 2011

LAKEVILLE — Sitting out with a broken arm, Mike Childs could do little but cheer his teammates on to the title at last year’s Lancer Relays.
Not to worry.
The John Glenn senior sprinter made up for lost time Monday, powering the Falcons to four wins on the night and a sixth straight title at the LaVille relay meet.
“It’s the best feeling in the world,” said a smiling Childs. “It was the worst last year; I had to sit on the sidelines and just watch and cheer on my teammates and now I’m able to help them out and do everything I could to help them get the victory. It feels awesome.”

Quentyn Carpenter and Trojans repeat at Marshall County tourney

May 2, 2011

CULVER — Even with repeat Marshall County Golf Tournament titles and a veteran roster with everyone back from last year’s state finals-qualifying squad, Triton wasn’t taking any chances.
The Trojans got in a practice round at Mystic Hills Friday, then went on to defend their Marshall County title at the Culver course Saturday, easily beating second-place John Glenn by 30 strokes with a tourney-record-setting 304 in spite of gusty winds and a saturated course.

Plymouth keeps rolling in NLC with win over NorthWood

April 30, 2011

PLYMOUTH — Another complete pitching performance, another flawless defensive effort, another Northern Lakes Conference win.
Jordan Scheetz pitched a three-hit, one-walk shutout going the distance, and the Pilgrims defense backed him up with its second straight errorless NLC outing as Plymouth stayed unbeaten in the conference with a 7-0 victory over visiting NorthWood at Bill Nixon Field Friday.
Scheetz allowed only seven total runners on base in a super-efficient 78 pitches as the Pilgrims got their second straight complete game after Richie Luva’s win over Wawasee Thursday.

Lady Pilgrims win 3rd straight in 3 days

April 30, 2011

PLYMOUTH — Three wins in three days.
The rain has played havoc with Plymouth’s Northern Lakes Conference schedule, but its hasn’t been as devastating to the Lady Pilgrims as they’ve been to their NLC foes.
Up against a condensed stretch of conference meets, Plymouth earned its third straight win in as many days with a 4-1 conquest of visiting Concord at home Friday, following back-to-back home wins over Elkhart Memorial and Warsaw to move the Pilgrims to 4-0 in the NLC and 7-1 on the season.

April 29, 2011

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth was competitive but took a pair of Northern Lakes Conference losses to Northridge and Goshen at home on Senior Night.
Northridge topped the pile with a 72-60 win over Goshen, while the Redskins split with an 85-47 win over the Pilgrims. Plymouth fared better in the Raiders match-up but still fell 74-58 in the rainy, windy and cold conditions Thursday.

Lady Pilgrims top Tigers

April 28, 2011

PLYMOUTH — The rivalry between Plymouth and Warsaw is always intense, but given the conference ramifications of Wednesday’s girls tennis meet between the two teams, the competition was fierce.
The Lady Pilgrims hit the courts focused and kept a little cooler under pressure to edge out the visiting Tigers 3-2 and take the driver’s seat in the Northern Lakes Conference round robin standings at Plymouth.

Lady Pilgrims top Panthers in Northern Lakes Conference 3-way

April 27, 2011

PLYMOUTH — With Warsaw the easy presumed victor, both Plymouth’s and NorthWood’s girls track coaches knew Tuesday’s Northern Lakes Conference three-way would come down to a showdown between the Lady Pilgrims and the Panthers.
Plymouth got a big boost from senior transfer Hannah Christy as the Pilgrims trumped NorthWood 70-62, while the Lady Tigers dominated as expected to move to 6-0 in the NSC on Senior Night at Plymouth.

John Glenn beats Judson in dual meet

April 26, 2011

WALKERTON — Steph Radant closed the gap, and Cayla Ochs opened a slim lead on the backstretch, narrowly beating North Judson’s Danielle Sallee to the hand-off. Katie Dreessen created a little space, and John Glenn’s 1600 relay squad edged out Judson’s by a mere 2 seconds to clinch the Lady Falcons a thrilling 65-63 team victory in a dual track meet at Glenn Monday.

No. 13 Rochester dimes Plymouth in 5

April 22, 2011

PLYMOUTH — Once they got the win, the Zebras got in a little defensive practice.
The Pilgrims didn’t put them through many paces in the game.
Plymouth batters put up just three hits as they were shut out by Rochester ace Leighnee Smith, and the ICGSA Class 3A No. 13 Zebras used a six-run fifth to dime their hosts 11-0 in five innings Thursday at Plymouth. With a game against Class 2A No. 10 Lewis Cass scheduled for today, Rochester stuck around to field some balls following the abbreviated win.
