Lincoln wrestlers win Indian Springs invite

February 13, 2012

COLUMBIA CITY — The Lincoln Junior High wrestling team went 5-0 to win the Indian Springs Invitational Saturday.
After a slow start against Adam’s Central (66-34), the boys improved drastically in the next three rounds by beating Lakeland 103-6, Garret 90-18, and East Noble 102-10. They closed out the day on a high note, defeating a tough Indian Springs squad 68-48.
In a day where the young Rockies were shorthanded due to illness and injury it was a total team effort that got the victory.

Plymouth, CGA fall at New Prairie

February 11, 2012

NEW CARLISLE — Friday’s New Prairie Sectional semifinals were both tales of two halves as Plymouth got off to a strong start but couldn’t hold off St. Joseph’s in the opener, and Culver Girls Academy fell behind by 10 at the half and was never quite able to get over the hump against Marian in the nightcap.
The Pilgrims closed their season with a 51-33 loss, while the defending champion Eagles were unseated by the Knights 46-37, setting the stage for a championship match-up between Marian and the Indians tonight at 7:30 p.m.

A team victory: CGA swimmers earn program-first sectional title at Warsaw

February 10, 2012

CULVER — The Culver Girls Academy swim program can boast plenty of impressive accolades over the course of its history.
The record board on the wall at the James R. Lowenstine Pool is lined with the names of All-American after All-American. But one bona fide that has eluded the program over its storied history is a sectional championship — until now.

Thrice as nice for Lady Cats in win over Cavs

February 9, 2012

HAMLET — There’s an expression that says there are few things tougher in sport than to beat a team three times in a single season.
Oregon-Davis repudiated that old claim in convincing fashion Wednesday night, handing Culver a 55-36 Sectional 51 loss in a quarterfinal at The Den.
The No. 4 Lady Cats’ margin of victory was even greater than the back-to-back wins they took from the Cavaliers Jan. 23 and 24 and gave OD the right to advance to face Westville in a semifinal Friday at 7 p.m. CT.
