Plymouth competes at Northern Lakes prelims
Plymouth competed at the Northern Lakes Conference prelims at Northridge Thursday.
Elliott Eads made the finals in the 50 free where he finished seventh with a 24.21, and the Pilgrims 200 medley relay squad of Tom Serf, Brandon Brashere, Ben Shortt and Jordan Wendel opened the NLCs with a fourth-place result in 1:56.04.
Serf placed 10th in the backstroke and 11th in the individual medley, while Jared Hill finished 11th in the 200 free and 12th in the 500 free, and Brashere was 12th in the breaststroke.

Wrestling state series opens this weekend in last year of team tournament

PLYMOUTH — It’s the last chance for squads around the state to vie for a team title as the 74th Annual IHSAA Wrestling State Tournament Series opens this weekend.
This year’s tournament marks the last year for the team state series after the IHSAA’s executive committee voted unanimously in November to drop it in lieu of an exclusively individual tournament beginning in 2012-13.

Culver snaps skid at OD
Trent Elliott had his first double figure outing in four games, and the Culver Cavaliers snapped a three-game skid while handing host Oregon-Davis a 69-40 loss on the road at The Den Wednesday.
Elliott knocked down four 3s on his way to a game-high 22 points, his first double digit production since Culver’s last win at Westville Jan. 11.

Comeback kid: Plymouth’s Ed Johnson fights to keep his MMA dreams alive

PLYMOUTH — Ed Johnson found Mixed Martial Arts as a way to cope with the pain of his father’s loss.
The sport that started as an outlet quickly became a passion, but when he awoke one morning to discover two herniated lumbar discs 10 months ago, he thought he might have to give up that passion forever.
Fortunately for Johnson, that’s not the case.
After a tough and uncertain rehabilitation, the 20-year-old Plymouth High School graduate will make his return to the cage April 7 in a 155-pound bout at the Century Center.

Lady Pilgrims tally season-highs in 3rd straight win

PLYMOUTH — When your hard work doesn’t seem to be paying off, it can be tough to keep the faith. Fortunately for the Lady Pilgrims, their efforts are finally yielding some results.
Plymouth put four players in double figures for the second time in two weeks en route to a season-high points total, and the Pilgrims rallied past visiting South Bend Clay 53-43 for their third straight win at home at The Rock Tuesday.

Hostetler leads LaVille in win at Rochester
W.B Hawkins Award-winner Andrew Hostetler put up a game-high 18 points with six steals and three assists, and the Lancers earned their second straight win with a 56-43 victory at Rochester Tuesday night.
Hostetler, who received TCU’s W.B. Hawkins Award at the Bi-County Tournament championship game Monday for contributions to his community and school, knocked down four 3-pointers to lead three Lancers in double figures.

Boy, Yeo, Boy! Triton’s Clay Yeo powers Trojans past Cougars

LAKEVILLE — Last week’s snow-outs forced Clay Yeo to wait two extra days to break the 1,000-point barrier.
No big deal, breaking the mark at the Bi-County championship just made it that much more special for the Triton junior.
Yeo put up a season-high 39 points to complement 10 rebounds and four assists, including 22 of Class A No. 5 Triton’s last 24 points, and the Trojans held off a scrappy New Prairie challenge to earn their third straight title in a 68-66 championship thriller at the 47th annual tournament championship Monday at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium at LaVille.

Lady Cats unseat Cavs to get back on top

LAKEVILLE — It hadn’t even been a week since the Oregon-Davis got star player Jesse Avarone back.
When the sophomore combo player went down again with an ankle injury early in the third quarter Monday, the Class A No. 6 Lady Cats rallied around her, unseating defending champion Culver 49-36 to retake the Bi-County title Monday at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium at LaVille.

Pilgrims bounce back at Bremen in rare Monday night game

BREMEN — It was a back to work Monday for everybody it seems, including Plymouth’s Pilgrims and Bremen’s Lions meeting in a rare Monday boys varsity basketball game, and it was the Pilgrims who rolled up their sleeves and came away with a win on the road by a final of 66-38.
