Anderson, Falcons soar to victory over Redskins

September 3, 2011

WALKERTON — Just when the Redskins thought it couldn’t get any worse, Josh Anderson was given another carry, and delivered in a big way.
The Falcons senior running back had his way with the Knox defense all night, leading John Glenn to a 53-8 victory at home on Friday night. Well, he had his way with the defense for half the night, as Anderson only played one series in the second half, a 56-yard touchdown run at that.

September 2, 2011

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth Head Volleyball Coach Doug West believes his team is turning a corner.
Thursday’s Northern Lakes Conference opener bore him out.
The Lady Pilgrims earned a convincing 25-17, 25-16, 25-18 victory over visiting Wawasee, running their win streak to three matches and opening NLC play at 1-0 at The Rock.

Rockies drop NLC contest to Goshen

September 2, 2011

PLYMOUTH — An unwanted theme has been developing for the Rockies so far this season.
They play solidly for most of a game but wind up giving up goals in spurts during short breakdowns that ultimately cost them the game.
Such was the case Thursday as Plymouth lost a 2-0 Northern Lakes Conference decision to visiting Goshen on the Rockies’ home pitch at Kindt Soccerplex.

Fall robs Uceny of chance to win world championship

September 2, 2011

It’s not Morgan Uceny’s loss in her world championship race that had folks around the Plymouth area all upset Thursday morning.
It’s knowing that she never got a chance to win.
Uceny, a 2003 Plymouth High School graduate, became entangled with another runner and fell to the ground with 1½ laps remaining in the women’s 1500-meter final at the IAAF World Track & Field Championships in Daegu, South Korea.
She got up and eventually finished a distant 10th, jogging across the finish line.

Conference season opens in earnest with Week 3

September 1, 2011

The championship season starts now.
For most teams Week 3 means conference openers, and historically league titles in either the Northern Lakes or the Northern State Conference have often meant a perfect record. Plymouth hits the road for perhaps its biggest NLC rival at Warsaw, while Bremen looks for a measure of revenge against visiting NSC foe New Prairie, and fellow NSC contenders Culver and Triton clash at Culver.

Triton tests Plymouth in loss

September 1, 2011

PLYMOUTH — While they are potential sectional foes, Wednesday’s non-conference meet was largely a way for both teams to sharpen their competitive instincts for their league schedules.
And while the meet score may not have reflected it, Plymouth’s 5-0 win over Triton featured some competitive matches on several positions at the Pilgrims’ home court in Centennial Park.
It was a good test for an undefeated Plymouth team that hasn’t been tested much yet this year.

Rockies draw with Lions, 3-3

August 31, 2011

BREMEN — The past few seasons, it seems neither Plymouth nor Bremen can get the better of one another.
Tuesday's game was no exception as the Rockies scored late to force a 3-3 draw after a back-and-forth contest on the Lions' home turf at Bremen.

Uceny set for finals at World Track & Field Championships

August 31, 2011

The moment of truth has arrived.
“The final will be about taking a risk,” said Plymouth native Morgan Uceny from a secluded spot underneath Daegu Stadium in Daegu, South Korea, early Tuesday morning. “You can’t win without taking a risk.”
At 7:55 a.m. Thursday (EDT), the 2003 Plymouth High School graduate will toe the starting line with 11 other women seeking a Gold Medal in the 1500-meter run at the IAAF World Track & Field Championships.
