Lady Pilgrims top Bremen, 4-1

PLYMOUTH — Any win over a sectional opponent is a good win, and Plymouth bounced back from a tough loss to Valparaiso Monday with a 4-1 win over sectional rival Bremen at home Thursday.
The Lady Pilgrims won on all courts except 1 singles and in straight sets at three of the other four flights to claim its second win of the season.

Sullivan pitches Plymouth past Glenn, 3-2

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth starting pitcher Marissa Sullivan was in the zone last night… the strike zone that is.
The Lady Pilgrim right hander allowed only one hit and two walks to go along with 16 strikeouts in a 3-2 win over the visiting John Glenn Falcons.
Sullivan struck out the side in the first two innings of the game, allowing only one Falcon to reach base safely by a fielding error. She struck out the side two more times in the game, once in the fourth and again in the seventh inning to seal the win for Plymouth.

Plymouth loses NLC meet at Wawasee
Plymouth lost a 93-39 dual Northern Lakes Conference meet on the road at Wawasee Thursday.
Plymouth went one-two in the 3200 relay as Matt Lee, Diego Ibarra, Austin Rose and Mason Reed combined for an 11:24.59, and Stephen Abair, Kennedy Schnieders, Richie Sutch and Andrew Gerard clocked an 11:47.63.
The Pilgrims scored another win in the 1600 relay where Lee, Michael Hartman Reed and Elliot Eads turned in a time of 3:44.83.

Wild pitching costly for Lions as Pilgrims rally past Bremen, 4-3

PLYMOUTH — Bremen head coach Bo Hundt knew coming into the season that his team’s fortunes were going to hinge on pitching.
It was certainly the Lions’ undoing Wednesday.
Bremen’s pitching staff struggled with control issues in the blustery conditions, and Plymouth capitalized on a total of 11 walks and five wild pitches — including four bases on balls and a pair of wild pitches during a decisive three-run sixth — as the Pilgrims claimed their second straight win with a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over the visiting Lions at Bill Nixon Field.

Skirvin signs with U of Indy

Plymouth High School senior Hayden Skirvin recently signed a letter of intent to play football next fall at the University of Indianapolis. The coaching staff at the University of Indianapolis heavily recruited Hayden to play tight end for the Division II Greyhounds, who finished the 2011 season with a record of 7-4.

Bremen sweeps Glenn
Bremen beat visiting John Glenn on all five courts in a Northern State Conference sweep at Leeper Park Wednesday.
Glenn freshman Kyler Columbia took a 6-4 win over Bremen’s Chelsea Anglin in the second set before succumbing 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 in No. 2 singles play in the closest match of the day.

Plymouth dimes Rochester
Chase Peters gave up six hits for four earned runs, and Plymouth’s order cranked out 12 hits in a 16-6, six-inning diming of Rochester Tuesday at Bill Nixon Field.
Joe Knapp, Ike Kastner and Hayden Skirvin all doubled for the Pilgrims, and Skirvin finished with five RBI while Kastner and Peters each batted in two runs.

Logsdon, Riley throw Lady Pilgrims for a loop

PLYMOUTH — South Bend Riley pitcher Jackie Logsdon had something that the Plymouth Lady Pilgrim softball team hadn’t seen much of only three games into the season — a change-up.
The Wildcat right-hander used the pitch early and often in the game en route to a three-hit, nine-strikeout performance and a 7-0 shutout against the host Lady Pilgrims Monday night.

Lancers rally past Bruins 10-9

LAKEVILLE — Talk about helping your own cause.
LaVille pitcher Justin Baker’s two-run shot straight out to center in the bottom of the sixth tied the game at 9-all, and his walk-off RBI single into the gap at short in the seventh earned him the win on the mound as the Lancers rallied past visiting Bethany Christian 10-9 at home Monday.

Triton falls short at Tippy Valley
Triton scratched out four runs in the top of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough as the Trojans lost a 13-12 heartbreaker to host Tippecanoe Valley Monday.
Bryson Mosier doubled and scored two runs for Triton. Tippy Valley recorded five triples and two doubles en route to the win.
Triton falls to 2-3 on the year.
